If DLRP were DLRUK....

Just for fun, complete the following statement with your own ideas. It can be as positive or negative as you like!

IF DISNEYLAND RESORT PARIS WERE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM...

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

...the locals would still prefer Walt Disney World, and it would still have been the first Disney park to serve alcohol.

...there would be chavs in Disney Village.

...the Disney Princess line of girls' dresses would have been outsold by a line of tracksuits.

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

To be honest, I don't think things would have been that different, despite what many have said. Would it have been cleaner? Well, the city of Paris is about a million times cleaner than London, so I doubt it. Would the weather have been different? There's a popular conception of England being much rainier than the continent, yet Belgium and northern France often get more rainfall. Would guests and staff members have been friendlier, better behaved, less lewd? Anyone who's ever been to Alton Towers would attest that, and besides, a large percentage of both would be from the mainland anyway. The only real difference I could see is that a UK Disneyland would not have had to deal with a herd of fafafah philosophers and intellectuals fearing the demise of their masturbative little Baudrillard Fantasyland.

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

"Paris is le chic city destiantion and DLRP is a plastic American hype - not worth a visit." That's what die hard Paris fans have told me. A statement that is more than a declare of war.

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

no need to be in the UK there is already a lot of British Visitors in the Parks .

Eurostar Packages helps alot and even Group Bus Trip as well .

Most of the british visitors thought that it would be the same thing that WDW and translated in english with full english speaking CM .

At least they are very educated for most of them ...

That is the one thing I cannot understand about Disneyland Paris.
The only place I got a decent coffee was cafe Fantasia in the Disneyland Hotel.

I agree about stuff only being in English if the park were in the UK, but I guess it feels the same in Paris if you aren't English or French - there is only a little of other European languages there.

I rather like Legoland Windsor, I think that has been done well and shows the UK could do it.

I don't think the UK government could or would support the infrastructure as well as it seems the French have. A TGV, RER and bus station right by the park are excellent.

Welcome to MiceChat Fiyero (Wicked fan are we?!).

I'm sorry but I can't agree with Legoland Windsor. I visited there back in the Summer and, after being used to DLP, was grossly disappointed in the patchy theming and poor maintainance of the park. I still liked it but I would have wept real tears had I ever encountered a Disney park in that state.

Yes I am a Wicked fan

I probably overstated it, Legoland of course isn't a patch on Disneyland Paris.
I didn't notice any maintenance issues, the rides were themed well to their areas (even if the theming is patchy overall and nowhere near as well defined as Disney) and the shows were fun enough.

When I think of a park like Chessington I am disapointed that it is so commercial, there is Pizza Hut, a KFC and a Burger King in the park. I also get rather lost at Chessington, they no longer give free maps and it isn't obvious how to get around.
I know the 2 parks are owned by the same people but I think there is a huge difference between the two.

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

If DLRP were DLRUK.... I, as a Dutchman, would have never visited it. And I think a lot of mainlanders with me. So it would not have attracted as many people as it has now.
To kind of quote wikipedia: France is the most touristy place in the world and attracted 81.9 million foreign tourists in 2007.
The United Kingdom attracted 30.7 million.
If Disneyland attracts 12 million in France. It would have attracted around 4 million in the UK.

(This is of course not entirely true... Since there might have been more British than French people who would have visited. And perhaps the UK would attract more tourists with a Disneyland. But still )

Care to elaborate on that? High speed rail and today's uber-cheap they'd-remove-the-seats-if-they-could-get-away-with-it low-cost airlines get you across the Channel in a jiffy. Are you saying you wouldn't have visited Disneyland Paris had you not accidentally bumped into it on your way to the Riviera, or that the UK is so unappealing you'd avoid it even if it contained a Disney resort?

Re: If DLRP were DLRUK....

Puss has a point. The United Kingdom is virtually part of the mainland now (it is a small world after all!) and quite frankly a Disney park would have to be built in Siberia for people not to flock to it.
The United Kingdom has many great tourist destinations. Many Chinese and Fat American tourists like to come over to look at our Houses of Parl-eee-ah-ment or visit Madame Tussauds to see waxwork representations that look nothing like people they have never heard of. There does however seem to be a stigma attached to visiting the UK if you are a 'mainlander' - perhaps understandable considering our geographical aloofness (but do places like Sicilly and Cyprus get the same treatment?)
