DLP Guest Injured on Crushes Coaster

A Disneyland Paris guest was injured on Saturday at the Walt Disney Studios Crush Coaster attraction. More news later, but news reports said that the guest jumped himself from 7 meters high during the ride because he thought the harness was getting unlocked. His wife, who was seated in the same vehicle was arrested by security to answer some questions. Inquiry by French police and DLP maintenance was going on this saturday evening. Apparently the man is safe, even if other news medias keep saying that he is seriously hurt. More news when available.
UPDATE 11/30: A WDS source says that the man "didn't fall from 7 meters high" and, good news, the man was able to drive back to his home in the evening.

How the heck could he get out of his harness?

Re: DLP Guest Injured on Crushes Coaster

And apparently the man was an Annual Passholder . So that means he's been on the ride before . So there was no reason for him to say ''blah blah i thought the ride was over ........''

Re: DLP Guest Injured on Crushes Coaster

DLRP Today reports that the seriousness of the accident has been over-stated, and amounts to nothing more than a guest falling on the stairs whilst being evacuated from Crush's Coaster.
He was indeed able to drive home later that day and the ride opened again for a private party the same evening.

Assuming this isn't some sort of massive cover-up , it makes you wonder where the original story's details came from...

Someone who had an agenda against DLRP I'd imagine.

The initial story would be well reported in the media however the actual events would either have minimal or no exposure at all.

Yeah that's what was mainly focused on other Disney sites that the man was fine and it wasn't serious but that the news was making a big deal about it.

But it does make you wonder is Disney just trying to cover this up.

Who knows?

Re: DLP Guest Injured on Crushes Coaster

Big deal. Why no one remembers the man who got off WDW's Splash Mt and got killed a few years ago... which could have been prevented if a harness or lapbar was installed in the ride vehicles... but it's NOT?

I recently picked up a copy of the book Realityland by David Koenig which is a behind the scenes look at WDW, telling stories Disney would perfer you would not know. Regarding Guest incidents, Disney will if it feels the guest was in the right try and settle out of court very quicky in return for that Guest to remain quiet. In most cases Disney does not want the publicity.

Kind of reminds me how loose the lap bars are on Big Thunder Mountain at the Magic Kingdom in WDW. Thats a injury waiting to happen!

why would anyone be so dumb to jump out of a moving vehicle even if they thought the harness was coming loose. Instead grab the lap bar and hold on tight for the remaining few seconds of the ride

Your so right people can be so stupid.

I think he might have just said this to blame it on someone else.

It can never be there fault.

You'd be amazed at the things people will do. When I was working on the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, a British girl threw her handbag out of the train during the launch. It was open and stuff flew everywhere - including in front of the safety detectors beneath the track, causing the whole ride to shut down for thirty minutes. When we pulled her out of the car and asked her what the hell she thought she was doing, she explained that she was afraid the bag might slip out from between her feet during the loops, so she threw it out at the start to "keep it safe".

Staggeringly dumb.

Re: DLP Guest Injured on Crushes Coaster

Most rollercoasters actually don't require restraints if we're only talking about the rides physics. The reason they have restraints is to keep the people from doing crazy stuff! The only rollercoasters that need restraints are those with strong negative G forces. 3 rollercoasters in the world features a -1.8G hill: Expedition GeForce in Germany, Millennium Force at Cedar Point and Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England. What does -1.8g means? It means 1.8x your body weight are actually thrown in the air, trying to follow a "normal" fall. Not wearing the lap bar (and in the case of large riders, seatbelt!) will eject you from those rides.

I had a lap bar open on Space Mountain at WDW (advice: long legs and row 4 DO NOT MATCH, as your legs will prevent the lap bars from closing properly...) after the first drop and I just held on and was fine.
