So I've opted for good ol' Big Thunder - the finest family coaster in Europe, if not the world!

Haven't had the pleasure of riding RnRC yet. It's definitely on my agenda. Having rode it 100 times jacoaster, that tells me the ride must be something special. Five different soundtracks and lightshows would definitely ROCK!

It's a great ride, but it's not as good as it used to be. In the past there used to be hundreds of multicoloured lights synchronised perfectly with the train, loud bassy music, and really thick smoke. Now a load of lights don't work, they aren't synchronised so well, and the smoke is either thin or not wokring at all. The music is usually pretty good still, but not the best.

Saying that though, quite a few people have been saying recently that the smoke machines are working again. Hopefully that's true!

Cool! Hopefully, this is a sign that they plan to restore and maintain it better in the future.

I can't say I've ever noticed any of those issues - my eyes are always tight shut on RnRC!

I've been on it once. I think my eyes were closed, I know I lived through it. I'm not one for the fast scary rides!

I rode it a few months ago and was horrified at just how badly maintained it was! At least 60% of the show was inoperative - even in the load and unload stations.

Even worse, the Cast Members who now work there have never seen the show working properly, so they don't know what it's supposed to look like! Seriously, on a sliding scale of 1 to 10, the maintenance problems at Rock are even worse than those at Phantom Manor. I could have cried!

The smoke machines were working a treat though!

Re: Most Repeatable Ride Experience At DLP

^That's pretty much what it's been like the last two times I have visited, except no smoke whatsoever! I can't say I've ever seen any major problems in load and unload though. What problems were they exactly? I know the countdown screen wasn't working sometime recently.

It's such a shame because when everything is working properly it's an incredible attraction. But when half the show doesn't work, it's nothing more than "okay". The effects are what make or break the attraction.

I might actually beg a Cast Member to get the smoke machines working if they aren't next time!

That is a real shame to hear. When running as designed, our version is far superior to WDW's. If the effects are not working, then it is far worse. They really should sort it out.

Re: Most Repeatable Ride Experience At DLP

Let's face it baloo.. most every ride at DLP is far more superior to the MK's, but this is what happens when maintenance is not a priority...and sadly, DLP is not run to perfection on that matter.

Have never ridden RnRC. Although I hope it receives the needed and deserved refurbished repairs, I'll know I'll have a fantastic time on my first ride even if some of the effects are malfunctioning.

The countdown screen isn't usually a problem - it's the overhead lights and effects that aren't being repaired when they break down. Here’s what’s supposed to happen:

Before a train arrives at the loading station, the light show is in "neutral" mode - the work lights along the queue line and loading pen glow a stead, faint white. Large, but fairly faint, areas of coloured light (based on the colour of the last train to pass through the station) are projected onto the area beyond the track, where all the industrial concert equipment is stored. The Tour De Force Records logo is projected onto the rear wall. A few small white spotlights stop the area from being too dark.

Then a train arrives and everything changes. The tunnel between load and unload fills with large moving patterns of light (the patterns and colours depend on the train). As the train pulls into the loading station, the lights projecting onto the concert equipment spring to life, putting out the same swirling circular patterns. At the same time, the spotlights switch off, so the whole area is darker. The Tour De Force Records logo transforms into the Aerosmith logo.

Meanwhile, the work lights along the queue take on the train's colours and start pulsing rapidly. (They are actually multi-coloured LEDS, disguised as normal bulbs).

While guest are being loaded onto the train, the big swirling patterns of light on the back wall gradually move down until they are shining straight down onto the train in a line.

These then switch off, one by one, as the train pulls away. The Aerosmith logo sweeps across the room, and becomes enormous, stretching from floor to ceiling as the train passes by on its way to the launch tunnel. It then flashes different colours and fades away.

On the launch platform, while the countdown starts, a separate, mini-light show takes place around the train. All the work lights switch off, plunging the area into darkness. The circular patterns that have accompanied the train through the load station reappear, and sweep backwards along the length of the train, faster and faster, to give an impression of speed before the train is even moving.

A few seconds before launch, the orange warning lights above the tunnel mouth start flashing. At the same time, the multi-coloured worklights along the queue start to flicker and dim. (The idea is that electricity is being drained from the rest of the attraction to power the launch).

Then the train launches, all the show lights snap off, and you get the strobe effect of the ride photography. The rest of the load station goes back to its “neutral” setting.

Phew! I’ve just realised what a long and involved post this is. Sorry to go into such minute detail, but it should give you some idea of how bad things have got at Rock these days.
