Disneyland 21-22 May (Some short videos and pics)

This was the first time I went to DLRP. But I am sure I will go back every other year. It is by far the best theme park in Europe that I have been to and my second favourite Disneyland after Tokyoīs… and it has thrill rides! But the park is far from perfect.

There was some work going on in many places of the park. Some of the most visible was at the end of Mainstreet, near the hub facing the castle, walls were up in Discovery Land and Adventure land.
A great looking park does not stay great looking forever. Making changes in a park is not the same thing as maintaining it. There are many signs all over the place that it has seen better days. Not only that, it was dirty.
The water area in Discovery Land did not make a good impression at all. The rocks around it needs to be repainted and pools needs a pool guy. It was the same thing in most other places where there was water.
Some paint would help the park a lot. If they hire more persons to walk around the park picking peoples trash up it would be even better.

When it comes to the rides I have to say that this Magic Kingdom has the best blend of thrills and things to do in between the thrills.
Space Mountain in Paris is the by far the best version and my favourite ride in Paris. Even if it used to be better or different it is still a coaster that makes you feel like you are zooming around in space. Another best ever was Pirates. It could use a revamp when it comes to the AAs but the ride itself is still the best version.
But also the rides needed care. There was something wrong on everything. Space Mountains music needs to be fixed, the dragon under the castle had something going on in the eyelids, the rocks in BTM did not move, the dolls in small world had cracks in the faces, lights were missing in some parts of rides and so on. It was sad to see the doll that plays the accordion had almost dropped it and only held it with one hand.
The Star Tours movie was in the worst condition that I have seen a movie in, lines all over screen. The robots lights kept reflecting on the screen. Also the cue area movie was in terrible shape. The seats looked like something you could find in a dump yard.
Many small details overlooked all over the park end up giving a bad impression in an otherwise very nice park.

Disneyparks should not only have the best rides but also that special atmosphere. Sometimes DLP gave me that Phantasialand feeling ( http://micechat.com/forums/other-theme-parks-vacation-locations/115968-phantasialand-last-saturday.html ). If there are two similar parks that both offer a great theme, rides and atmosphere, wich one should a family from Poland or Germany chose? The one with a small price tag and more thrilling rides or the expensive one with the mouse ears?

I went to the park with people that had never before been there. This means that the thrill rides where the most appreciated and the Fantasyland rides left us all speachless, in a bad way. They simply do not live up to the standards that guests that are non disneyfans expect. It was to dark inside Peter Pan and he Pinocchio ride was really scary, not in a good way. I donīt care if these things are classics or not, it is 2009 not 1969. People walking of these rides have other expressions than people walking of Space Mountain or even Pirates.
All in all, they where very happy about it all. We ate at Waltīs, we watched the parades and some part of the shows… honestly… very short parts. The Mickey party show thing was boring and felt like a waste of time and effort. It did not draw any crowds. Minnieīs train was cute and we all considered it a nice touch.

After a long day with a lot of walking and a lot fun it was time to leave the park. Mickey waves goodbye from the train station. It feels strange to leave the place when it looks the best as the sun sets.

...we returned the very next day!

Iīm adding some links to Facebook where I have uploaded a few pics.Iīm not adding the entire album, Paris is not always a pretty sight
Itīs the first time I add picture links from that site so i donīt know how well it will work but here goes:

Mickey waving goodbye is nice. I know it's easy for a fan to say and it probably won't happen, but it would be easy enough to fix some obvious things and make that bit of difference. Oh well.

We all thought it was great to see Mickey at the exit. It gathered a crowd and everybody was smiling. If someone misses out on Mickey in the park they have one last chance at the exit.

There is nothing major wrong with the park. It is really nice. But there are a few things here and there that are in the shape of a themepark not connected to Disney. Give them some paint and hire just a few more persons and the surface will be better.
Just having more characters around seme to make people happy.
Underneath it all... I donīt know

Pirates was great! The best pirates I have been on (nobody invited me to LA yet...). But they could squeeze in Jack Sparrow and some movie references here and there.

If they would do that, like they have done in the other versions, I would hope they make all the other AAīs look a bit more realistic in the faces, just a bit

Great videos! Thanks for sharing... Hopefully they'll work on the upkeep issues. Maybe in time for the 20th anniversary?

Keeping a place clean and fresh looking is something that has to be going on all the time. DLP has a few smaller issues... but added up it gets closer and closer the need of a major park rehab.

I love your video on the castle looking down over Fantasyland, that's one of my favourite places in the park

Thank you for posting!

Being up there is awesome. It felt like a real european old castle. They should have made something similar for HKDL and TDL where people donīt get the chance to see old european castles as much.

Totally agree, we are so lucky that we have the castle we do in DLP, I doubt Disney will ever improve on it, it's the best! I love how detailed and intricate it is, I always spend so much time in and around it. I just wish they'd stop "decorating" it, it's so much more beautiful when left alone.

I'm thinking our only hope is a major park rehab like they did at California's Disneyland for their 50th...
