Which Restaurant?

Ok, so Buffalo Bill is definitely off the menu (pun intended) due to Mickey's crude invasion, but I still wanna have some kind of meal that's a little more than cheap fast food or hotel-made sandwiches, but due to excessive prices/exchange rates it'll probably only be one. So, out of the whole resort, which one restaurant (and not too expensive) does anyone reccomend for this?

Re: Which Restaurant?

Definitely either Walt's, Blue Lagoon or Silver Spur. (Auberge is now a horrible farce, filled with "Now Isabella, if daddy buys you a princess dress..." types.)

Walt's is of course a fan's mecca, the food is "delicate" to used a word beloved by the French. Blue Lagoon has the escapist atmosphere but requires a love for seafood and coconut (strangely delicious together, by the way.) Silver Spur is all red meat and "good eatin'".

So it depends on your idea of a good time and a good meal.

The hotels and Disney Village have excellent restaurants as well, but if you're only going to have one fancy meal, opt for the Disneyland Park. No-brainer.

Oh and try breakfast at Annette's! Excellent value.

Re: Which Restaurant?

Hmmmm, we rarely go to counter service meals as they rarely offer a good value (Cowboy Cookout and Fuente del Oro aside). we always tend to go table service, as although they seem expensive to begin with, they are only a couple of euros more expensive than counter and they fill you up for the whole day, not to mention the restful experience.

My recommendations if not wanting to spend too much - fav restaurants - Silver Spur (great food and ambience) and the Steakhouse (always awesome). I love the California Grill too, but that is expensive.

Walt's has a great setting, and often good food, but we have found the food hit and miss, as well as the service.

Blue Lagoon has a good setting, but we have never had a good meal here, and does have a rat problem.

Annette's is great if in the mood for high quality junk food (really very good).

And we like King Ludwig's as well. But I am partial to german food and beer.

Overall, if watching pennies, but want a good meal, you can't go wrong with the Silver Spur IMHO.

But the Silver Spur is just as expensive as Walt's. Do you mean you get better value because of the bigger portions?

The Cowboy Cookout Barbecue is lo longer any good. I don't know what's going on with it, but they appear to be winging it, as if unpleasantly surprised with the burden to have to run a restaurant. The Fuente del Oro is still alright, though.

And rats don't really need to be taken under consideration. It's not 1483.

Re: Which Restaurant?

My view on the value of the Silver Spur is not only the portion sizes, but also the fact that some of the entrees (if not having a set menu) can be cheaper than Walt's.

As for Cowboy Cookout - we had a great experience last month - good quality, good service (including cast members bringing us napkins and ketchup) and live music. But mileage can vary, and the menu is not as extensive as it once was sadly.

As for being the 21st century, I would still rather not see rats in the dining room while eating my meals.

Re: Which Restaurant?

But yes, the meal prices overall are similar at Walt's and Silver Spur. f the couple of dozen meals at walt's, about 50% have been good to great experiences. Of a few more than that at Walt's, only one experience was somewhat questionable due to slow service, and that was about 10 years ago, whereas all the other experiences have been great.

Re: Which Restaurant?

But one of the most awesome things about DLP, is they offer the finest table service experiences of all the MK parks around the globe, and really only beaten by Epcot.

Re: Which Restaurant?

The Steakhouse was nice although the service was very slow.

The best table service restaurant on the Resort (as far as service is concerned)? Rainforest Cafe.

Re: Which Restaurant?

Hmm....I did Rainforest Cafe last time so don't really wanna go again. Walt's sounds nice, a bit less, I dunno, specialist than Silver Spur or Blue Lagoon (seriously, rats? You have GOT to be kidding me!) Is the atmosphere at Walt's nice, cos I have no idea what the style/theme is?

Walt's is a Disney Imagineering museum dipped in a Victorian glaze. Each room is themed after a land at the Disneyland Park. I like to think of the menu as vaguely reminiscent of an east coast American restaurant from before 1970 — the sort of menu you could imagine the Honeymooners having in front of them on a rare night out. You've got your steak, your fettuccine Alfredo, your Caesar salad.

And the rat problem at Blue Lagoon is highly overrated. Any place which serves food and has a big open door will see the occasional pigeon, mouse or rat, but if they were living in the kitchen or posed any real threat to hygiene the place would have been closed down years ago.

Re: Which Restaurant?

Funny, as I saw a couple of rats run across the dining room and showed the cast members, they just shrugged their shoulders. When I complained to the manager, I was given a free dessert. Puss, how many times have you been in there? We have never had a good meal there, and after 7 attempts over the last 17 years, I am tired of trying.

Oh, only twice, and I'm not saying I'm the bigger connoisseur at all, but I do know that EU hygiene regulations are very strict. And this isn't some backstreet sandwich shop in Naples, it's Disneyland Paris. So surely we can trust that the rats aren't doing water polo in the mango salsa.

Re: Which Restaurant?

Agreed, but the fact they were so nonchallant about it led me to believe it is a regular occurrance. As much as I love DLP, I am not willing to give them that much of a pass (not to mention the food has always been cold and poor quality)
