Disneyland Paris 1997

Way back in 1997 our parents took my brother and I to Disneyland Paris for our most amazing Christmas present ever.
I recently found some photos and thought you all might like to have a look.

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

i loved the 5th anniversary overlay and the year after Captain EO ended in Discoveryland for that HISTA movie .

I wish they could bring Captain EO back to Discoveryland. Then this theatre would be way more popular than what it is right now .

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

I'm not sure bringing back Captain EO would be a great idea for lots and lots of reasons

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

The death of MJ did make me wonder whether Captain Eo should be reinstated at the parks for a limited run. However it is probably far too dated now and Mr Jackson's recent reputation makes that idea seem like a pretty poor choice.

This year my sister and I were surprised with Disney World. We had finished opening all our gifts, and my dad came to the living room with two black boxes and handed them to my sister and I, we opened them and inside were our Florida itineraries!! Best christmas present ever!

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

Indeed Mr Detroit, I'm not being horrid, but his downfall seems to deem him unsuitable for somewhere like Disney. I HATED the 5th castle overlay cos it looked unfinished and patchy. Nice idea, although to cover the castle with a big Hunchback advert seems, well, vulgar (though of course the original Sleeping Beauty castle was built before the movie even came out hehe). Wonderful to see geysers/ol' shack man, why on earth would that get removed?

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

DLP's 5th anniversary overlay: EEK! Worse than MK's 25th overlay.

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

At least WDW's 25th had the balls to finish the job. DLP's 5th is patchy and a shameless plug, they make the MMP decorations seem positively tasteful (the 15th ones were very tasteful but up too long). Oh well.

Thanks for the pics, Fiyero. Those were the days when the resort was really doing well in terms of maintenance and upkeep. It's great to have this little look back in time.

No, that pink Pepto Bismol castle cake from hell was definitely worse.

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

i have an interesting set of pictures from 1993 and 2001, which allows for comparing the changes in Adventureland landscaping during these years (basically, pairs of pictures shot from the very same angle). if I knew how to post pictures, I'd post them =)

Re: Disneyland Paris 1997

^^ You just upload them to a site like Photobucket, and then copy and paste the URLs... Or just send them to Anthony of Memorabilia (DLRPMagic). He'll be very happy with them.

And I don't mind the 5th Anniversary castle that much, personally. The Hunchback medieval carnival theme seems a lot nicer to me than that brainless crap they hung on the castle this year.
