Built Out DLP (From Space)

-Lewis & Clark River Adventure added to Frontierland.

-Adventureland adds Lost World Jungle Cruise (see here: Disney and more: A Tribute to Tom Thordarson - a.k.a " THOR " - Artwork - Part Two : Dinosaurs Ride Concepts ) and a new, greatly expanded Indiana Jones coaster.

-Fantasyland adds indoor AA attraction (PotC-like) based on original fantasy storyline.

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

Actual present:

Expanded:

^CA, It's just some more blue sky, armchair imagineering and photo-shopping of the satellite view of DLP. The actual file is much larger, but flickr automatically shrinks it, so it's hard to make out the details.

The first thing I've imagined is building a separation (arch, wall, rocks) between Hyperion Cafe & Space Mountain in order to create a Star Wars-based sub-land (A) that is distinct from Discoveryland (which reverts back to its Wells/Verne machine-age roots). Star Tours (C) would be updated and HISTA (B) would be changed out for a Star Wars-based show. I've added two major showbuildings to house attractions: one has a forested facade (E) and could be a kids-based dark ride taking place on Endor. The other is very big (D) and could employ Spiderman-type technology and use expanded universe characters.

In fantasyland, I added the showbuilding and facades (F) that were originally planned for a Little Mermaid Attraction.

Additionally, there is a major new section to fantasyland (G) that includes and Beauty & Beast darkride (I) and an e-ticket dark ride based on the Black Cauldron (H). I know Black Cauldron failed at box office (and as a film), but I think the art direction and fantasy elements lend themselves well to a thrilling dark fantasy AA attraction.

In the space once reserved for Jungle L'explore and IJA, I have placed a Lost World Jungle Cruise (J). The time is the 1930s and tramp steamers are plying a mysterious river where dinosaurs are rumored to survive.

The dinky, neck-cracking Temple du Peril is replaced with a full scale Indiana Jones Coaster (K), passing through mines, caves, waterfalls, booby traps and plenty of AA animals and threatening villains.

Finally, leaving the mining town of Thunder Mesa behind, explorers venture by raft into wild forests and mountains not yet seen by European eyes, in Lewis & Clark River Adventure (L).

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

Thanks for the explanation, now reload the pic!

Maybe show each land individually so we can make out what you're doing.

I wouldn't ask you to do all that if I didn't think it was worth looking at, but Randy Savage ideas usually rock!

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

^ I've loaded a bigger pic in the post above and made a few alterations, including:

- (O) Removal of the Fantasyland Stage in order to allow better access to the new section north of the RR tracks.

- (N) Added a showbuilding/facade for the Beauty & the Beast AA show where it was originally slated to go. Which would mean (I) would no longer be a B&B dark ride, but perhaps Tokyo's Hunny Hunt.

- (M) The chaparral theater would house the Western Stunt Show as originally planned:

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

I must point out a great flaw in your build-out, Randy.

The Parisian climate, with its cool summers and harsh winters, disables attractions such as Splash Mountain & Jungle Cruise to operate year-round.Thus both Lewis&Clarke and Lost World are dead in the water.

Now I'm all for Temple du Peril getting reworked. The addition of more ride and AA scenes(Chamber of destiny,Snake chamber,Boulder scene)is needed to call it an actual Indy.

If the B&B AA show is going anywhere it would be underneath or attached to the main castle. The Sleeping Beauty look would be dropped for a more location-appropriate theme(as B&B is set in France).

Black Cauldron seems a little off, MK's Snow White also tried to be its Fanastyland's "darkest" dark ride and was panned by guests.

If there was a Stars Wars mini-land it be across the hop in WDS.Also the studios is getting its own Hunny Hunt, but it will be themed to Ratatouille.

Paris & Tokyo have very similar non-summer climates (Tokyo's summers are wetter and slightly warmer). Their winters are almost identical.
Tokyo, Japan: Climate, Global Warming, and Daylight Charts and Data

Splash and Jungle Cruise are both year-round star attractions in Tokyo. To your point, TDL's Splash was designed so that the guests do not get wet. I imagine it would be more difficult to do that in a white-water attraction (but not impossible). I personally don't care to get soaking wet even in the summer.

Why not leave "Promise of a Rose" where imagineer Tom Morris originally devised it to go, between Sir Mickey's and Fantasia Gelato:

Black Cauldron is a personal indulgence as I find its art direction very appealing (although the movie is dreary)... and the Horned King makes a great AA villain:

Star Wars and Jules Verne's retrofuture are like water & oil. There ought to be some kind of separation. Moving it all to a studios park is fine with me... in this imaginary built out world, WDSP would not be anything like what actually exists.

Is Paris colder than Tokyo?

Randy just placed the AA show where it was originally intended to be. There is a photo of an imangineering model showing the exterior of the theater, that you could probably find somewhere on the net. It used be in the gallery section of Disneytheque but that site has changed and removed all those images.

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

^I think Paris is closer to the arctic then Tokyo, maybe not? If both cities maintain such similar climate, would Paris already have Splash & JC if they had the funds to do so because I think that's what's stopping them.

(To RandySavage)Well maybe Black Cauldron could work.Yet to a lesser extant, under the castle(along with other villains) haunting that walk-through with the snoring dragon.

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

The official reason why the Jungle Cruise was not built were because parks in Europe had already copied the attraction and scenes (Drayton Manor in the UK, Phantasialand in Germany etc.), as well as the concerns about language difficulties. Therefore it was never built. The weather was never the issue as the Riverboats and IASW run just fine with exterior water and so could Storybookland Canal boats.

And Splash Mountain has always been on plan. But the funding was ear marked for other attractions over the years.

Re: Built Out DLP (From Space)

That all sounds like it would be great,
but only a few of the things have any chance of happening.

Jungle Cruise is always a possibility simply due to the lasting appeal - but it is a big land-hog.
The rest are largely unlikely, however much fun they sound.

I wish I had got the chance to go to TDL before they got rid of the villains walk-through - that looked amazing.
