Oh come on, get over it! I knew that you would pop up in this thread saying the same thing you always do! As soon as someone says how nice something is, there's TDR_Fan with the: "But TDS is much nicer..".

POTC - different ride layout to make the ride's story evolve faster and added different drop profiles.
BTM - located on an island, goes faster, and is involved in the storyline of Frontierland
IASW - bigger more colorfull façade and a totally different ride layout
Storybook land - different fairytales
Autopia - different cars and other setting
R'nRC - based on the same characters, but with a totally different theme

so while most rides share a major design scheme, details are alway different, and in most cases the differences are so big, that they make for a total different ride experience....

clones that are completely the same are:
Pinocchio
Snowwhite
startours (although the location fits the theme better in DLRP)
HISTA
the Caroussel
Dumbo
FCOA (in WDSP)
orbitron (since the placemaking in Anaheim)
and most of the other smaller rides....

but the bigger ones all have something unique to offer that is just big enough to make a difference....

so cloning is mostly about the theme, rather than a complete carbon copy, when it comes to the bigger rides and attractions...
anywho... I like DLRP for what it is, but is simply needs more, as I said earlier.

Rock and Roller doesn't count. We're talking about Disneyland Paris.

BTMRR doesn't count either. Other than being on an island, it's the same ride.

Try again.

I'm talking about REAL differences. Differences that actually make the ride, well DIFFERENT!

There are only two attractions that are really that different. Phantom Manor and Space Mountain. That's it.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

When I think of DLP my feelings are very mixed. I do think it had a great start but is a lesser contender than other Disney resorts now. But let's start with the positives:

Wonderfully imagineered 1st park with attention to detail and amazing attractions.

The best versions of almost every land, and Phantom Manor, Big thunder, PotC, Peter Pan, IASW, Buzz and Space Mountain, RNRC and now even the tram tour and Animation are better than FLA's.

Some great dining at the California Grill, Manhatten Grill, the Yacht Club, The Steak House, the Silver Spur and Walts.

Some wonderful unique attractions such as Cinemagique and the first version of Motors Action.

Fantastic stage shows in the Lion King, Tarzan and the cute Mickey's Winter Wonderland.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

Now for the bad, and this list is long:

- Rude and obnoxious, smelly, pushy, ignorant, selfish, smoking on IASW guests.

- Surly cast members (not all)

- poor maintenance

- Overpriced hotels that do not offer the level of service or amenities of their American cousins

- Reliance on thrills on virtually everything built since 1994

- No street entertainment as such in DL anymore unless Halloween or Chritsmas season - no piano players, barbershop quartets, musical groups etc.

- Fireworks are very rare and small in size (yes, I know the reasons)

- Street traders in the hub near the Train Station (land is officially public there).

- The ruined village that has very little entertainment anymore

- the dumbing down of restaurant themes

- the dumbing down of merchandise

- the weather

- the high price of drinks

In short, while I enjoy my time at DLP, I'd rather be in Disneyland California. Or WDW. Or DLP circa 1992 when it was more like the US resorts.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

Oh, and I forgot another positive. DLP has Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. The best Dinner show on the planet IMHO!

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

If we were to have a wish list of fitting clones though, I would love Splash Mountain, and Indy EMV ride, a Jungle Cruise (never happen) and AA show (never happen), Muppetvision 3D, Great Movie Ride, Playhouse Disney, and a highly themed table service restaurant in the Studios.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

Yes, these are old problems of DLRP.. I'm curious to see if 1st of April changes anything.. especially:

Quote:

- Surly cast members (not all)

- poor maintenance

- No street entertainment as such in DL anymore unless Halloween or Chritsmas season - no piano players, barbershop quartets, musical groups etc.

- the dumbing down of merchandise
And prehaps the global warming will eliminate this:
Quote:
- the weather

Btw, the weather this February and March has been nicest ever, and the resort by far most crowded. Things are changing..

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

I agree with the good and the bad stated above by davewasbaloo. ...and back then, they used to serve the very best chili in Europe at the Buffalo Bill show. I wonder if that is still the case.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

I think DLRP has finally learned something from its mistakes and past. Things are definitely changing for the better (not that they were THAT BAD). It's easy to judge but one can't deny the troubles of the financial problems, lack of acceptancy at the start, unfamiliarness of European audiences with the multi-day themeparks etc. They survived a recessions and with the 15 year anniversary I hope it will be a new start. I loved DLRP in 1992 but honestly it was too much, too expensive, too over-the-top. They have finally found a balance between cultures, tastes, Disney Style versus DLRP Style etc... and I agree they need a new dark ride in Disneyland Park.

At my last visit, the chilli wasn't at all bad. And the apple cobbler was fantastic!

I'd agree with some (if not most) things in 2005, but things really are changing for the better

I'll give my opinions if I can;

- Rude and obnoxious, smelly, pushy, ignorant, selfish, smoking on IASW guests.

Not really DLRP's fault. But cast members are defiantly are starting to put pushy guests in their place, any I've seen recently have been sent to the back of the queue. And smoking is now banned in all restaurants.

- Surly cast members (not all)

Defiantly not all! But some are not as "happy" as they should be. Though I know that many are excited for the 15th anniversary and certain bonus's have been reinstated, and the mood is pretty high backstage.

- poor maintenance

As you know, it'll be very hard to find any peeling paint or a moss patch (except the castle). The whole park is sparkling at the minute, loads of effects have been reinstated and old details returned. I'm pretty sure this new flood of maintenance be kept up.

- Overpriced hotels that do not offer the level of service or amenities of their American cousins

Totally agree!

- Reliance on thrills on virtually everything built since 1994

This wouldn't be the case if the visitors came from the start. Plus at one 1 rollercoaster in 1992, more thrills were needed.

- No street entertainment as such in DL anymore unless Halloween or Chritsmas season - no piano players, barbershop quartets, musical groups etc.

Much has changed here. There is often piano players at Casey's Corner, A Main Street Band is back and often play on Main Street during the week, Western Band at Cowboy Cookout 5 days a week, African Drummers at Adventureland or Lion King Stage. And more streetmosphere is planned from April 1st.

- Fireworks are very rare and small in size (yes, I know the reasons)
Very True. And something which isn't improving, last year there was a firework display on many Saturday evenings throughout the Spring and Autumn, none this year until July (except tonight for St Patricks Day).

- Street traders in the hub near the Train Station (land is officially public there).

A very, very bad thing. But steps are being taken for Disney to purchase this land I believe.

- The ruined village that has very little entertainment anymore.

Not sure if it's ruined, but needs a lot of work!

- the dumbing down of merchandise

The amount of new stuff in the shops this year is amazing. But more variety is needed.

- the high price of drinks

I agree, and the price for food overall is too high.

Lots of stuff is getting better, and DLRP is without doubt on the up.

Re: Your thoughts of DLRP.

So glad to here things are getting better and welcome aboard Poppy - I didn't know you were a cast member at DLP now - congrats!

Are all the streams and fountains working properly? It must be at least 10 years since I have seen them doing so - especially Fantasia Gardens and the Waterfall/stream at the entrance to Frontierland.
