Language Barrier

I'm just wondering if there's any type of language barrier at the Paris resort? Basically I'm asking, could I fully enjoy the park without knowing any French? Just want to know, can I go on the rides and hear the audio in English? can I get around following any type of English signs? are there cast members around the parks who could assist me with my serious lacking of the French language? All a simple question that I just would like to know in case I end up going there?

Re: Language Barrier

Don't worry, it's ridiculously easy for an Englishman at DLRP, (in fact too easy, one can get disillusioned if one visits the resort and then the city of Paris expecting the same hehe). The primary attraction audio is in French though very few rides have any primary audio at all. There is the occasional cast member who doesn't know what you're on about but he majority know all the English necessary for their job. Hope you can get there soon

Re: Language Barrier

You will have no problems. Just enjoy it and you'll have a great time.

I would suggest that you try and learn at least a little French. It won't hurt.

Re: Language Barrier

I've wondered this myself so great question. On the same note how about Tokyo? I think I am more likely to go to Tokyo Disneyland before Paris.

Don't worry about it. At all. It's France, not Mars.

Re: Language Barrier

Most CMs speak at least two languages and most will have enough English to understand you. Yes, some rides are in French. On Star Tours the little robot rabbits away in French but the guys on the screen speak in English. If you got to the Lion King show be sure to get tickets for the English version. They are given out (free) in front of the Videopolis theatre a follows:
The Legend Of The Lion King
At Videopolis, Discoveryland at the Disneyland® Park
Due to this show's enormous success, prior reservation is now required. Reservation tickets are distributed free of charge at:
- 11.00am for earlier performances and
- 3.00pm for last two performances at the entrance of Videopolis.
Be sure to secure your seat! Please note the distribution of reservation tickets is limited to the number of seats available.

The actual show times and the language it is performed in will be on the daily park info/ map you are given as you enter the park.

Re: Language Barrier

At least buy one of those basic phrase books before you go. They'll appreciate it if you try even a little to speak French.

Re: Language Barrier

CMs wear flags on their nametags. It should not be difficult to find one with a brit flag on them if English is what you want. Personally, I have a MUCH MUCH harder time finding english-speaking CMs in Tokyo than any other park.

While not many speak fluent English, I find that most CMs can speak a few words of basic English. Most of the CMs at the Disney hotels do speak very fluent English, however.

As far as I know, tickets are no more distributed before the show. The show's still very successful, but just arrive 20-30 minutes before the show starts at theater gates.

About the main topic,
"bonjour" (hello)
"merci" (thank you)
"au revoir" (good bye)
"s'il vous plaît" (please)
... are the only words you need to know when visiting France.

'Parlais vous Englais?' - that's all you need! It's got me through five visits to DLP with no problems!

"Voulez vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?" can be useful too.
