Cool First half results - profit or not?

From yesterday EDL s.c.a. stock has risen 15%. Markets are expecting good results. The announcement will be made next week on 6th of May.

What do you think, do we finally make profit?

Re: First half results - profit or not?

It has to be profit - ToT may have been expensive following the Toon Studio upgrade but attendance numbers have been very good.
Now let's see them pump that profit into bring the other park back to its former glory.

Re: First half results - profit or not?

I really wish that for once, I had something even remotely profound to say on this subject, but alas; I can't even balance my checkbook.

However, attendance does seem to be good! Now, attendance has never been bad at DLP, but if those guests have bought plenty of ugly picture frames and ate plenty of mediocre burgers, it might be really good news. Also, it appears the ToT has had a huge impact on attendance at the WDS (which, unlike DLP's, has been generally awful until now). But whether or not all this would mean they've turned a profit, I couldn't say. It should, I guess, otherwise the place is pretty much doomed.

Well...

I would think the Corporate Bean Counters have a dilemma on their hands. On one hand is the market confidence that would be generated from a profit being announced? On the other hand there are benefits from making a loss the biggest being you don’t have to pay any nasty tax. I used to work in the wonderful world of finance and know that within reason accountants can make the numbers add up anyway they want to.

But there are those corporate covenants on financial performance that have to be met that we don’t know too much detail about. So my view is that the announcement will have little to do with the performance of the parks and more to do about the message the management want to send to the market.

Uh, yeah...right with you... :-S. I think pussnboots is spot on, if it's not a profit, as far as my limited knowlledge of all things financial goes, then nothing will ever work.

So basically it's all pretty meaningless and arbitrary -- they turn a profit, they lose it all on taxes, they don't turn a profit and everything's the same as every year.

Oh well, at least the stocks are up.

Re: First half results - profit or not?

The best way to see if they are actually making a profit in Euros is to watch the maintainace in the parks over the next few months (I hope I'm right!)

Re: First half results - profit or not?

So I gather it's just a smaller loss. Hmmm, a bit anticlimactic, isn't it...

This may be what they are reporting but surely due to the massive attendance during the 15th, somebody somewhere is recreating this scene...
