New retrofuturistic topping stations at Videopolis

Now, between faux flowers, peeling paint and rocks that rock no more, DLP's upkeep gets a lot of slack...



...But occasionally it gives us something really nice.





New topping stations (as in ketchup) have rolled into Videopolis. Now many of you will scoff, "topping stations? Is this really worth a new thread?". And you're right, but it's pretty much the first really competent thing they've done in Discoveryland this decade. Everything they've done post-Space Mountain 1 has been toward a shinier, more fluorescent Tomorrowland style, gravitating away from the bronze-and-turquoise 19th century style that Discoveryland was built and loved for. Everything, that is, until these seemingly insignificant salad bars were wheeled in. So there.

I am so glad this is back. I was heartbroken when the original one was sold on e-bay a few years ago. A step back in the right direction at least.

That's funny, there was no mention of this in the article... So a car like this has been there before? Was it also a salad bar then?

Thanks for posting the photos, Puss. I love the new topping carts - according to a CM friend of mine, they've been sitting backstage for almost a year already, in various states of construction. (He seems to think the outdoor vending carts may also get a redesign along these Vernian lines.) We'll have to wait and see.

Yep, whe the place first opened they had one similar to this (I thought it sold on e-bay, maybe they refurbed it if it didn't sell) that came out about 5-7 years ago (my memory is a little hazy), the toppings left about 10years ago so it was just a set - napkins dispenser. It was a toppings bar (we used to have a bar at Casey's Corner too). But just like the reflecting pool at the Adventureland Bazaar, the animals at DLP ruined it for everyone and they stopped stocking it up. And then just like the vehicles in front of Annettes and in Main Street Motors, some of the props at the Explorer's Club, and around the park (like the truck) were all sold off, or they tried to sell, or were scrapped all together (like the canoes).

I even put in a bid for the discoveryland truck when it was on e-bay.

I think one day I should right about the missing history of DLP. None of the travel guides or official publications ever do.

exactly.... these are BACK... not NEW like most people think.
they were removed when they noticed most europeans don't grasp the idea of "free condiments"... the carts were literaly plundered with people stuffing their pockets with ketchup and mayonaise bags or even worse: just getting a free salad as a main dish, without getting any other food from the counter.

The Resort is trying so hard to pull off a 180 (theming wise...not the poor financial situation).
It's these details that really makes DLRP set up above the rest
