Re: Grand Californian?!

We have reservations with an AP in Sept for $324 a nite. It's worth it for the atmosphere, what they have to offer, and the convenience of being right there. My only complaint as that when you pay for a particular view, you want that view. We have had some bad luck with that. We stay a couple of times a year and have learned to ask for the lower rated view and we try our luck on what we get. We have found the rooms to be very comfy. Love that place at Christmas! Having a hot chocolate and relaxing by the big fireplace in the lobby is relaxing. You asked about the different rates, they do give AP and AAA. I did notice that was was quoted on their AP website for the Grand was not the same as quoted. Also, sometimes the AP website gives big deals just before the timeframe they have available with the deal. It's a matter of catching it. If you are willing to pay the amount, try it. It's beautiful and comfy.

Re: Grand Californian?!

GCH is a nice hotel but not at $500/night. For ANY reason. Check out Disneyland Hotel instead -- at least $100/night less expensive and so much more room for your money.

I don't mind dropping coin for a nice room, but even when GCH was brand new it wasn't worth that a night.

The views from Disneyland Hotel are far superior.

Re: Grand Californian?!

It is a bit overpriced, but if you can swing it, it's absolutely worth it. We got a theme park view for our trip a couple of weeks ago, and it had a marvelous view of the HTH and the GRR mountain. It was our first stay at a Disney hotel, period, so we were absolutely thrilled with the level of service we were provided with. Having an entrance into DCA and into the middle of DTD is also nice, because it's great for when you want to just go back to the room and relax or something. For a special night like yours, I would splurge on the room. If you're trying to make a special memory, why not there?

Re: Grand Californian?!

I enjoyed it. If you do go for it, try this out for fun:

Take full advantage of the special entrance into DCA and enjoy the pool while you are there. Go into DCA and get fastpasses for Grizzly Rapids. When your passes are up, throw a t-shirt on, and jump back in the pool so you are dripping from head to flip-flops. Hop out and enter DCA and go straight to the Rapids to use your fastpass. You are now wet and can ride without fear of a drenching.

As an added bonus, if people look at you funny, you can look them in the eye and say "Oh, yeah, you might get REALLY wet on this ride."

Re: Grand Californian?!

It is over priced. The rooms are small. You can stay at Disneyland Hotel or PP and still enjoy GC by walking thru on a daily basis and GC has great places to eat at. Just sleep in a less expensive room with better views and more room.

Re: Grand Californian?!

If I was on a budget, I'd not spend a week at the GC, but if at all possible, I'd suggest a night or two there, after which you can pack it up and move to the more affordance Disneyland Hotel or Paradise Pier. It's fun to experience, and it's fun to share with people that you've stayed there.

Re: Grand Californian?!

Believe it or not, every hotel seems to be sold out on that night....EVERYWHERE anywhere close to the resort. Oh well, we will save the money and spend it on something else.
