Is Buzz Light Year Astro-Blasters Attraction Needed

The technology in Toy Story Midway Mania is far and away superior to that in BLAB. In fact, TSMM makes BLAB look like a cheap, old attraction--even though BLAB only 3 years old. To use a video game analogy, TSMM seems like a Wii system, and BLAB seems like an old 1980s Nintendo.

Should Disney say "So Long" to BLAB. Is the ride now outdated and no longer needed. Yes, it does have a large capacity, but what good is a large capacity if cars are being sent away empty. I was at the park last week and when I passed in front of BLAB, the wait was rarely longer than 10 minutes. I actually had no desire to ride the attraction.

With TL due for a major upgrade, should Disney use this space for a more innovative attraction or do you think we have another Innoventions on our hands? Will Disney allow this now far inferior attraction to wither away for years to come?

Its in suce a prime location, it just seems it could be used for something better. Maybe a new queue for Rocket Rods 2... hehe... i wish.

    Your thoughts?

ok home boy if this "prime location" was to be transfered into something, i would rather see Rocket Rods come back than see it bee used for a Rocket Rods 2.

Oh yea, by Rocket Rods 2, I meant Rocket Rods Original, just its rebirth. (Just maybe add banked turns)

Though I haven't ridden TSMM yet, it seems that these rides are very different and each are each a unique experience. It seems to me that there is no need to close BLAB any time soon if attendance stays decent.

Thats what I thought before I experienced TSMM. I should say that I was a huge fan of BLAB. In my opinion, TSMM lessens the BLAB experience. In essence, you are immersed in a video game in both attractions. TSMM is just so much more interactive.

BLAB is a great and really fun attraction. There is an actual story behind BLAB and the story is amazing! BLAB is not out-dated at all and I love trying to defeat Zurg every time I go on. I don't want to see any other attraction in its place and Rocket Rods 2..? No thank you. Even though I enjoyed Rocket Rods, I will not be fond of Rocket Rods or The People Mover if it takes out BLAB.

You said that BLAB was a ten minute wait or so... as long as it is constant with that 10 minutes and doesn't get any lower, I am perfectly happy with that. Look at PotC. The ride is usually never more then 10 minutes (especially during fireworks and Fantasmic!), so should Disney take that out since it has a short wait time? The reason the wait time is usually so low is because it is an Omnimover which means that lines are never long since it keeps moving. Kind of like The Haunted Mansion, if there was no pre-show for this attraction, the wait time would never be more then 10 minutes or so.

No, BLAB needs to stay at Tomorrowland. BLAB didn't cause another great attration to level. Nothing was really that great where BLAB used to be at. BLAB still is a popular ride and usually goes up to 30 mintues in stand by. BLAB is the kind of ride that little kids like to go on. BLAB tends to be simpler then TSMM. The way I see it that some people don't like BLAB, because they aren't good at it. It's not that TSMM is better then BLAB it's only updated. On the downside TSMM usually breaks down and has to be closed for a while. Come on hardly no one can score over 300,00 points on TSMM.

Not to play devil's advocate, but aren't things that are updated with new technology usually better? Thats why things are updated.

Yeah. TSMM has no story besides that somehow vistors get shrunk and Buzz and Woody are bigger...also we need to give Andy the virtual prize toy. (kidding)

If only...classic 1980's Nintendo games at least have charm. I think there's a place for a ride with physical elements that incorporates shooting lazers - one that is actually immersive, with a somewhat coherent theme. I think they should retheme BLAB to "new technology" that allows you to go into a video game - like Super Mario Bros. or other classic games, or even the fictitious Buzz Lightyear video game from the beginning of Toy Story 2.

Re: Is Buzz Light Year Astro-Blasters Attraction Needed

I like to see REAL 3-D in most attractions, NOT artificial 3D.

We can't do ride throughs at home like Buzz, BUT we can get a
similar experience to TSMM with a WII.

Buzz is still unique, and certainly, A HECK OF A LOT OF OTHER attractions
in TL need MORE dire attention before they start messing with a replacement for
    Buzz!

And your argument about sending empty cars just just plain bad reasoning. There are times when ALL high capacity attractions see short lines. HM and Pirate lines get REAL short during Fantasmic, and late at night. You want to aim for attractions that can carry a high number of guests, and Buzz does get a lot of people through. It helps keep the crowds happy, and air conditioned while they are on it. It's also an attraction that is good for all ages. That said, it not HM or Pirates, But it's a good solid C-ticket, and it adds variety to the rest of what DL offers.

Yes, the show and pre - show are outdated and needs to be changes. So, keep BLAB in TL. TSMM doesn't have a storyline that Buzz has. YOu are just riding to play video games. That's it.

Re: Is Buzz Light Year Astro-Blasters Attraction Needed

I think there are a few reasons why with TSMM, BLAB should go away.

#1- the same reason it shouldn't have been there in the first place. Buzz is a Toy, in present time. He doesn't really belong in Tomorrowland. If they wanted to try to make it stretch to fit the theme of Tomorrowland, they should have made it based just on the Space Ranger idea. ie, lose the large batteries and other toy stuff. make it on what the toy is based on, and not make it seem like the toy is in space.

#2- as someone mentioned, with the new technology used on TSMM, it really makes BLAB dated. Awesome analogy with the Wii and old school Nintendo. Ironic that the outdated, gimpy laser technology ride is in tomorrowland, where the new age mind blowing technologically advanced ride is in the pier.

#3- do we really NEED two attractions based on Toy Story? OVERKILL, especially with the Toy Story Musical coming to Hyperion. It's silly to have one shoot em up dark ride based on TS in DL as well as DCA.

So what to do... I think the best solution would be to keep TSMM ( duh! it's amazing ), in a few years, gut out BLAB except for the track. And make a dark ride based on Stitch. At least Stitch is an alien from outer space, sure he lands in modern day Hawaii, but for some reason it fits way better than a kid's toy. You could make the ride vehicles little red space ships and go through a story with Pleakly, Jumba, that big shark guy. And could you imagine a ton of little AA experiments?

    Anyway, my two cents.
