Re: Court of Angels to become another Shop Add-On in NOS

The issue with the stop-visiting-to-protest-the-increasing-level-of-yucky-commercialism-and-lack-of-thematic-integrity is that I, as an individual, have no assurance that enough other people would be doing likewise. And by your logic, if they don't, things will continue to get worse, which means I would be missing out on the park in its current state...before the damage becomes truly horrific.

    Dear Mr. Liver,

Thanks for your post, and please keep them coming.

I and the $27.7 million compensation I received in 2007 appreciate it!

If you think that Iger's pay is not in line with the job that he has done, contact your stockbroker or attend a shareholders meeting and demand that his pay be reduced.

The fact is that a company like Disney wouldn't spend 30 million dollars on a CEO unless they thought that the job demanded that kind of pay. The truth is that keeping talented executives is expensive business, but it serves the company well.

    Epilogue

    And thus,

As the Micechatters continued to squabble over what's right and wrong in Disneyland,

    Disneyland continued to get worse.

On and on the commercialism continued, and then Disneyland became a Six Flags style park.

Why, you might ask, did Disneyland turn out this way.

Because nobody in Micechat ever stopped arguing about what's right and wrong enough to tell Disney to Stop.

And they all lived happily ever after......

Re: Court of Angels to become another Shop Add-On in NOS

I really just don't get some of the people who are working for Disney lately.

Are they just stupid or have they simply and sadly forgotten what makes Disneyland so popular and special?

With the increased prices of all their tickets, I really feel that I should just cancel my upcoming trip and worry more on my new dog. It's not bad enough that they already put a major dent to your wallet when you enter the place (I'm talking about the people who go to the park like once/twice a year and don't have an AP), but then they continue to dent it with overpriced merchandise and food. For a time, I was willing to spend my money on Disneyland because I loved the place; it brought back memories of fun times and it was a good (though expensive) way to have fun for a day at Walt's Magic Kingdom.

Unfortunately, Disney has been doing a really good job at giving me reasons not to go anymore. They have taken out (and are continuing to take out) the unique places that make Disneyland special and, for me, magical and something truly unique. The Gallery is gone and will probably never return, the stores on Main Street and NOS are total crap when it comes to quality and unique pieces (albeit there are a few good ones left like the MS Disneyana and Music store and the Crystal store in NOS), Tomorrowland is a total mess, and now the Courtyard of Angels - easily one of the most unique and beautiful and calmest place in the park - is rumored to be destroyed for a crappy merchandise spot?

It just makes me sad Disney cannot see (or is unwilling to see) what their greedy minds are doing to Walt's Place. They just want to make profits now (I know all businesses need to make money, but it comes to a time when a business just gets plain greedy) and not allow the guests to experience the things that they came to Disneyland to experience. It's sad, because while their actions may not have consequences right now in the present, it will come back to haunt them in a few years.

I visited my Aunt yesterday who has a two-year-old daughter and she mentioned to me about the increased prices on their ticket prices (I had not even mentioned it to her; she brought it up on her own grounds). She told me how ridiculous Disneyland is getting. What was most sad is she said they can't really afford to go to Disneyland anymore.

Disney is just digging itself into its own hole and that makes me just want to cringe. I know they need to please their business needs, but this is NOT the right way to do it.

Re: Court of Angels to become another Shop Add-On in NOS

Dis has enough money and goodwill, to screw up for years, and then fix things later, when they've realized that they screwed up. I don't think DL is quite going down the tubes yet. Sure, if things keep going the wrong direction it could become a problem, but they've already began to change many problems from the old management, and many of these current bad ideas are likely created by Pressler followers who are still around. This is likely especially true in merchandise, where his influence had to be the strongest.

It's not so bad that it's realistic to say it's becoming like a Six Flags park, and since they're about to go belly up, and in about 10 times the debt of their value, I don't think anyone is stupid enough to follow their lead. If management starts losing money, they'll be replaced, and the new managers will fix the things that caused the downturn, in the long run DL's business will be fine. It would take really bad management a pretty long time to ruin the park completely to the point where it couldn't return to glory.

    Dear Mr. Liver,

From your lips to the board's ears!

Call my secretary next time you're visiting a Disney Park(R) -- I'll make sure our Dream Team gives you a complimentary ticket for one of those long pastry things we sell in our ODV carts (I don't know what they're called, but the markup is nearly 650% over cost, including labor and depreciation on the carts).

    Warm regards,

Iger's overpaid, but actually is doing some good things. I think people are overreacting. If this Court thing does happen, I doubt it will be permanant, and I doubt Iger deals with things that small. Problem is that the parks need to be run by a parks person, plain and simple. Iger knows TV, and is doing good things there, but Rasoulo is the problem for the parks.

Just think of it this way, the reason they are adding more shops is because "Disney needs more family friendly offerings" just like at Pleasure Island....

I wouldn't mind that statement so much if Disney actually added in shops (like they use to long ago) with unique, interesting, one-of-a-kind, actually-worth-buying items instead of the generic and cheap stuff that is in almost ALL the stores. The other shops outside of MS are so pointless now because you can practically find everything (minus a few exceptions) that are in the other stores around the park at the Emporium.

“What will happen is a ‘themed’ canopy will be put up over the courtyard, cash registers added, and it will be festooned with Christmas merchandise, as an extension of the tiny Christmas shop that borders it,” reports a cast member."
From what I can remember about January, I think they did this and it seemed to have disappeared after the Xmas season was over. In my opinion, it's probably just going to be temporary so the other store doesn't overflow with people during the holiday season.

EDIT: I'm optimistic . I love the spot just as much you guys.

Hasn't happened yet, but maybe for the 60th... When the next big merch push will begin.

Good to hear some optimism out there. I guess I might be ok with it being temporary, but it was just such a perfect picture spot during the holidays...

Oh, yeah. That was a joke, but it could happen...
