I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Star Tours 2 yet! Was anyone else at the event today? The 3D was amazing, I can't wait to ride this in 2011

I know! I was totally surprised that we got to see that (not to mention Radiator Springs Racers)!! I had previously been opposed to a pod racing scene, but after seeing what they've done, I'm all for it!

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

I was at the event! the 3d was fun, and I loved the poster they gave away at the end. I was hoping for a longer presentation, maybe with a bit more in-depth discussion? overall it was good though.

can't wait for Star Tours 2!

I don't know how legit of a blog this is, but if it mystery building hasn't been solved, this link says it is going to be "Edelweiss Snacks" and will open on September 25

Among the offerings:
* Turkey legs
* Chimichanga fried burritos
* Corn on the cob (buttered or chili lime)
* Frozen carbonated beverages (i.e. Slurpees or Icees by another name)
* Soft drinks

I have always thought that whole area where the old motor boat cruise load was as well as the back unused portion of the old light magic viewing platform should be all torn out and a nice village built. The village could have a swiss theme. A nice detailed queue for matterhorn built and then a themed bridge built over the pathway that leads to the existing small queue. I have looked at the area and eventhough it is about 50 or so feet it would work nicely. The lush trees in the area plus a wooden covered bridge would add an interesting element. This would eliminate the wrap around queues aorund the matterhorn and open up pathways. The balance of the village could then be used for other purposes to eliminate some of the clutetred ODV shops scattered in the area.

Eventually when funding comes around the village could then be extended back towards the now filled in waterway and the village could then slowly be themed to the one in the Beatu and the beast movie. Proper planning would allow for a themed restaurant/show area. Maybe something like the one they will be building in WDW. If not then give that movie a proper attraction.

They really need to consider Disneylands fantasyland future since they have land in that area as well as where the existing fantasyland theater is.

I like this idea in general. I'm not so into the bridge, but certainly a Swiss village would be wonderful. They could develop the queues on the north side of the Matterhorn, building up the village there, even if it means routing the path farther to the north.

As for your final point... with WDW getting an expanded Fantasyland, I wonder how long it might be before Disneyland gets one. DL's Fantasyland is now 26 years old, which is roughly half the age of DL itself.

They could use the area of the old MBC. If the SkyWay is never to return, they could remove the chalet and hill to the west of Casey Jr., push the backstage access to the west a bit and have a second pathway into an expanded Fantasyland. Integrate Toon Town into this area much better, remove the theater, build some new dark rides (Beauty and the Beast), move Pixie Hollow here, and create some nicely themed meet and greet areas (like those planned for WDW).

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

At this point they should really consider removing the fantaysland theater. That area is huge especially if you include the backstage section for the theater. Fantasyland should be expanded into this section to give that northern area something else to do and help reduce the traffic issues there

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

I'm still excited about the new building. I love Fantasia Freezes and corn on the cob, but my concern are the lines. There's usually a line for Fantasia Freezes, and a few people in line at everything else. It's not too noticeable, but with everything put together, I think the line will be.

Maybe they're going in a new ODV direction? Look at the permanent structure across from Toy Story Midway Mania. I don't know your thoughts on these, but personally I love having permanent Vending buildings as opposed to the ones strolling the streets.

What an excellent idea. Instead of 1 ride with Swiss themeing, we could have an area of Swiss themeing. Extending my Love for the Matterhorn even more. LOL This definitely is an idea worth thinking of on Disney's side I think. It would certainly add more atmosphere to that area. Maybe this is the direstion Disney is thinking of heading. The bridge I'm not quite seeing though. Where would this be again?

AMEN! What a huge waste of property that could house a couple of dark rides or even a wonderful restaurant. I like what Mojave had to say about extending it out so it connects with Toon Town. I too wonder what the fate of Fantasyland (DL) is going to be now that Fantasyland (WDW) is being completely (almost) redone. Great ideas guys/gals (not sure about mojave sorry - don't want to offend)

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

But, do you think that Disney figures that the new WDW Fantasyland re-do is finally they're answer to DL's Fantasyland makeover in 1983?.

Like, we got one, now they get theirs kind of thing.

I think an expansion would be great, as there is alot of unused or under used land that could be tapped for an expansion of FL. The whole "Fantasyland" idea is such an open canvas on which to work.
The potential for theming is endless given the long rich history of Disney. I for one would love to see a new dark ride where the FL theater is, unless of course they were going to stage big lavish productions of classic Disney stories that they could rotate out every summer or something similar.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

Wow, it's post 2144, and still no new tracker. That's understandable, though, seeing that the first post probably takes ages to make and we just had the D23 Expo.

Anyway, a Swiss Turkey Legs stand? Mmm, mmm! Disney sure stays authentic!

Well, at least to their turkey legs, that is.
