Saw the finished chalet today. . .and it is ADORABLE! Love it. After looking at it and falling in love, I turned to my right and tripped head first over a Churro ODV cart. Go figure.
You're entitled to your opinion, but I wonder how you feel about the rest of Fantasyland. A lot of it has a similar styling: half timbering, shingled roof, wood carvings, and painted floral accents. Is it all cheap/tacky to you? Guess it's good you don't live in Switzerland then...
I like the new Chalet as well. They even made some new planter beds with some small trees and all in there. Looks really good! Hopefully the area is much more open now with out the other random ODV carts that used to be scattered around.
WALT'S DISNEYLAND DEDICATION SPEECH! - To all who come to this happy place, welcome! Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth can savour the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will become a source of joy, and inspiration to all the world.
No, I don't dislike most of Fantasyland. That was built with a master plan, it works well with the similar attractions and styling in the castle courtyard. This turkey chalet is so odd to me as there is more work needed to this area, and they start with a permanent turkey leg place.
Anyway, I'm looking at it live in person today, its open for business and people are digging it... But that's not out of the ordinary, people line up all the time for whatever is offerred.
And I don't want to live in switzerland either. ;P
^So you don't like it... because it's Swiss?
How do you know this stand wasn't built with a master plan? Just because they don't build a whole cellar about it and display all their concept art and plans doesn't mean they didn't plan it well. Also, it doesn't just have Turkey Legs. The building is much needed in Fantasyland, to clear up the clutter of the carts. It serves turkey legs, Fantasia Freezes, and many other things in that area, as well as add theming. It's a clever solution and idea, I'm glad to see they're still creative and using techniques like this. It reminds me of other ideas and solutions, like forced perspective and other techniques used throughout Disney parks.
I agree, all projects at the parks have at least some planning. They don't just come out one day and say, "We're going to build a Swiss Chalet today."
^ Yeah, and judging by the amount of detail, they must've at least had some concept art or a model.
Definitely! There is so much detail in that one little building! There's no way it was quickly designed.
