Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

A Disneyland Press Release yesterday announced an official open date for Pixie Hollow and "it's a small world":
ABUNDANCE OF FALL FUN AT DISNEYLAND RESORT AS NEW SHOWS AND ATTRACTIONS ENHANCE TRADITIONAL HALLOWEEN AND HOLIDAY SEASONS
PIXIE HOLLOW: The magical realm of Pixie Hollow appears in Disneyland on Tuesday, October 28. Entering along a pathway with an enchanted pool, between the entrances of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, guests are gradually immersed into the community of fairies. Guests will get the strange feeling that they are shrinking to fairy size as they encounter statues of Tinker Bell and her friends, and spot other evidence of the pixies’ presence. When guests arrive at Tinker Bell’s home, they will meet some of the pixies in person.

[ . . . ]

Additional holiday highlights include the return, Nov. 21, of the “it’s a small world” holiday attraction, celebrating holiday traditions around the world.

Carousel of progress is a good attraction but its about moving forward bringing back the Carousel of progress might be good for a select few but would then loose its appeal to the majority of the audience.
Like the subs however, Disneyland isn't intent on losing one of its most unique buildings, one that rotates.

Anyone find it hard to believe that after all this time, ISAW got its flume fixed and the hello goodbye stuff isn't even going in until January. Maybe the characters won't go in till January to. If that's the case I would be extremely happy that I will be able to experience the true ride before the market nightmare. I will be checking to see if the rainforest is still there!

Because our ISAW has its own holiday music as well, I highly doubt that any movie themes will be weaseling their way in to the attraction.

If a new attraction could take the place of starcade and HISTA there shouldn't be a reason why an updated CoP could come back. It remains timeless in WDW and probably would here.

I don't think we need a roller-coaster in the dark with Space Mountain right next door.

Non Disney geeks, that's who. Everytime I go in there, there are people. My brother often wants to go in there.

Isn't the Rainforest scene covered up during the Holidays though?

Yeah, but the curtains don't cover up the ends of the scene well enough. So if you look to your side while you are entering the finale, you can see the scene in the dark.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

Carousel of Progress won't attract guests no matter what us fanboys say. If it can't attract tourists at WDW then how will it attract locals at DLR?

Replace the building with something that attracts guests instead of adding something that will barely have an effect on the turnstiles.

It doesn't because WDW has left it without refurbs sagging for 20 Years. With an update and spectacular new technology I'm sure that it would do fine.

An update didn't help it when it reopened in 1995 for their New Tomorrowland project.

People won't come and see a 40+ year old show with some new updates. Should it return, it would have to be like Nemo where the same basic infrastructure is kept, but the story and execution is completely different. It's more trouble than it's worth to have a "New and Improved" Carousel of Progress when something completely original could be replacing it. The audio-animatronics show is no longer popular. The Tiki Room stays open because it is in a high-traffic area.

Disney should just demo the building and build something that people won't get bored with after one showing. You can't hide the fact that Carousel of Progress isn't exciting or anything that could attract a crowd for more than a month. Even the name doesn't inspire excitement.

Disneyland wise, it's easier to attract locals than tourists.

You forget that it has been gone from DL for 30+ Years!!! It has just had its time in FL. Lots of people still want CBJ back, and many more want CoP.

Lots, ay?

I highly doubt that "lots" of people want Country Bears or COP back. While we Disney Fans may want it, we don't make up the entire audience of the parks. The General Public spoke by not going to the Country Bears before it closed, and now it's gone. Florida's crowd is speaking by not going to COP before it ends up closing. How are we sure the same crowd that didn't support Country Bears would support the return for Carousel of Progress, even with updates?

CoP in Florida still gets a decent amount of visitors.

Attendance numbers beg to differ, i'm sure.

I've been to Walt Disney World three times (May, October, and December, two out of three being highly-attended periods) and not one time has Carousel of Progress had a full or two-thirds full theater. Half-filled theaters are exactly what killed Country Bears over here. If there's an attraction that has been playing to half-filled theaters for almost a decade, then something needs to be done. HISTA may be hated, but people still go and see it. Lots of people.

Muppets, on the other hand, isn't playing to the crowds it needs and hasn't been since it opened. If it isn't attracting guests, then it's a waste of operational and marketing funds. Carousel of Progress was reopened to add another attraction to Tomorrowland when Alien Encounter closed, and is pretty much kept only to make sure the theater isn't empty like America Sings' theater was for a decade before it reopened as Innoventions. And that's good, because anything is better than an empty theater, but it's still a waste of money if it isn't attracting the audience it needs to survive.

New attractions are supposed to add up to long-term attendance gains. COP won't have long-term gains, but will have a short-term gain like Pooh until it returns to the poor attendence it gets at WDW.

i do not thinkt he rotating building has the sam significance as the submarine attraction.

That building really needs to go. There really is nothing special about a rotating building once you are inside it. It had its purpose as a show building but for an attraction it just limits the space inside
