Some of you are confusing marketing and advertising. Certainly the park has to advertise to stay in the public consciousness. But the park does not need tacky marketing campaigns conjured up by incredibly overpaid marketers who think people only come to the parks because they might win a Mickey hat, or will imagine themselves as Beyonce spinning in a tea cup. The marketing campaigns are wasteful. Sell the park itself in advertising with a timeless slogan of "the happiest place on earth," or somesuch, and ditch these trite marketing gimmicks brewed around a staid corporate table every couple years.

Actually, it USED to be Le Bat En Rouge. It was converted into Port Royal, which also sold/sells Pirates merch, when Pirates of the Caribbean got Jack Sparrow in 2006.

Ah! I didn't know it had its own name. I just thought it was an extension of Pieces of Eight. I remember it being Le Bat, too.

Advertising is a type of marketing. Marketing is the bigger picture.

^ yup. Having worked in marketing before, all you did was get the ads out to the audience. Bus shelters, billboards... that's all marketing.


And here's a question.. what's going to happen for Disneyland in 2010 for their 55th? Anything major? Looks like DCA is getting all the major updates.

But marketing is much more too. There is market research and consumer behavior studies, promotion vs advertising (which are very different things in reality), marketing is involved when trying to work out sponsorship deals as you must market the company to not just normal consumers but businesses too. I think people underestimate marketing and the scope of it.

Disney has announced that the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique will open April 17 via the D23 website's Twilight Bark news section:

Beginning yesterday, Guests can book reservations for Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Disneyland. The boutique, which transforms little girls into princesses and boys into knights, will be nestled inside Fantasyland next to Sleeping Beauty Castle and is set to open April 17.

Details: "Once Upon a Time ... The Disney Princess Shoppe" will close to be converted into Bibbity Bobbity Boutique where Fairy-Godmothers-in-Training will transform girls into princesses in this hair-makeup-and-costume salon.

Open Date: April 17, 2009.

My sources are telling me the various Cast Member communications are saying that the "Disneyland: First 50 Magical Years" will come out from refurbishment by September 26. I only assume this means that the new "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" will debut at the same time. There is no date listed for the new Disney Gallery.

Details: On February 25, Disney officially announced the long-promised return of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" in a press release. The new show will combine the historical Disneyland exhibits from the "Disneyland: First 50 Magical Years" show with a new theater presentation of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln." The rumored Barack Obama or George Washington additions will not happen.
Project Status: "Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years" will close March 16.
Open Date: September 26, 2009.

Details: Two new Disney-managed Hotels will be built at the Anaheim Garden Walk. From David "Darkbeer" Michael's 3/27 MiceAge column: Owned by Prospera Hotels, the two hotels will be managed and operated by Disney, and will feature Disney names, and use Disney employees. A 4-Star/upscale Hotel will be at the corner of Disney Way and Clementine, and a more "family" hotel will be on the south lot, next to the Cheesecake Factory.

I was checking the Disneyland calendar and noticed that for May 4 till the end of the schedule that they had posted Peter Pan was listed as closed for a refurbishment.

Peter Pan closed for refurbishment starting May 4, 2009 till ???

Anyone know what this is about? Probably a fresh coat of paint or something small, I don't know?
