Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

Well, I can't exactly speak from experience because I wasn't born early enough to see old Fantasyland, but I swore I remember reading something about how all of the rides were made 30% longer or something like that when FL was made over. That would mean that more must have been added to them, right? Either that or they slowed down the vehicles so the rides would be longer... Kinda doubting that though....

Yup, pretty sure they made them bigger.

Tony Baxter talked about it briefly during a Disney Treasures commentary: When Fantasyland was redone the carousel was moved back away from the castle to the footprint where the Mad Tea Party once was. This opened up more space for the dark rides to add beautiful European facades in addition to adding a bit more ride space.

Yes, the Carrousel was moved to where the Tea Party was. The Tea Party was moved to where it presently sits, blending nicely in an Alice 'miniland'. Dumbo was moved from near Casey Jr. to where the Skull Rock Lagoon had been; Skull Rock was intended to be reborn along the It's A Small World Promenade, but sadly, time and budget prevented that from becoming reality. The Fantasyland Theatre and FantasyLand Food Stand became Pinocchios Daring Journey and the Village Haus; Big Thunder Trail was built in part where the restaurant had been. The trail was created to connect Fantasyland to Frontierland and help traffic flow. Alice was indeed made longer during it's refurb: the finale/unbirthday party was added. This info is from Disneyland: The Nickle Tour.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

One of the reasons that skull rock was not rebuilt was due to the fact that the original ship which they had hoped to re-used got severly damaged when it was being readied to be moved. Money and time was not allowed for a new ship to be rebuilt.

So wait, the un-birthday scene wasn't in the original version? Did the cars just leave the top of the building, do the outside bit, & return to the unloading area?

Yeah, that was it. They simply curved to the right instead of turning into the building for the Cheshire Cat/Unbirthday Party scene. I believe that portion was used for vehicle maintenance for a while, but I'm not sure.

And that's why it happens after the story reaches its conclusion.

Oh, I see. That's why the story isn't in sequence. But I don't think people should quibble about that, since it is a nice bonus.

Which is how Tony Baxter described it. A kind of surprise, since you think the ride is over once you travel outside.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

It is a very nice add in! I never knew that the tea party scene was only added when FL was redone! I was always curious why the Mad Hatter, March Hare, and the Door Mouse would just pop up in the end like that. But I always liked it. I should think it would be a much better conclusion to the ride than merely pushing your way through the cards and out-running the queen. At least with the Un-birthday party you go out with a bang!

Thanks Uncle Bob for the concrete info, I learn something new every day

I'll miss fantasmic while its down, I'll have to go this Friday to see it as it is before the new rigs, dragon and projectors come into play.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

What are some other things that should be done for the parks? I'm hoping for a table eatery in Fantasyland or Toontown. I'd also love for Uncle Remus to be added in to Splash Mountain.

You still have time before the new dragon. The show has the Holiday and Winter seasons before going down for Spring again.
