No, I agree... and I don't think the problem is having a gallery on Main Street, the problem is the convoluted story of a bank taken over by a gallery but left half as a bank, etc. Just make it 100% a gallery is I think all anyone is saying.

Agreed. I don't think anyone griped as loudly about the bank being a temporary AP processing area because it was more or less temporary.... or at least that's the impression that I got. Throughout the years, locations on where you had to go to process your pass changed from the ex-Restaurant around the Hub, to DCA, to the bank.

But yah, I ultimately just wished that they would leave it in the elegant area of New Orleans Square like it was.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

Well, just to put this entire issue in a practical light, everyone might be interested in going to National Park Service: The U.S. Constitution and check out the history of this Second Bank of the United States (1800-1899) in Philidelphia.

The building presently houses the Independence Park Portrait Collection.

Also, other sites of interest:

What is Going On In the Village Avella Bank Building Restoration The bank is one of the last remaining original buildings left in this town. However it is not the original Bank. Setting directly behind the bank building is the original bank. It is now an apartment building.

Cumberland County Improvement Authority “ As part of the bank building restoration, we created areas on the first floor where local artists from the Arts District can display their work,” said Steven R. Wymbs, Improvement Authority Executive Director. “These areas in the building are open to the public during the monthly Third Friday events. Visitors can view the beautiful artwork and enjoy our re-creations of the Weatherby Hotel and Kreamers Pharmacy façade’s and the wonderful paintings that adorn each window.”

There are other samples available through an online search. So, hopefully this will put the changes to the Disneyland bank in perspective.

So Main Street will now take place in the modern times as these "banks" do now?
(In other words, they're facades for something different, a trend for modern day museums)

Talk about taking you to another time...

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

^right. Thanks for the references of REAL WORLD bank conversions, bfdf, but our point is that Main Street, USA is meant to be a time capsule, forever locked at the turn of the century in a small town. Not a big failed US bank designed after the Parthenon.

Upon crossing the threshold, Disneyland guests enter Main Street, U.S.A. temporally set around the turn-of-the-century, somewhere around 1905. Guests are supposed to be taken back in time, not remain in the present time.

I think you've taken my lighthearted comment a bit to serious, but no. What I was implying is that if the bank had failed, it would no longer be idealistic and therefore would need to be replaced with something ideal.

Re: Disneyland Project Tracker

But what about Disneyana? isnt it going to be redundant to have 2 Disney art/collectable shops soo close together?

Personally if the bank "lobby" area was completely kept "as is" and made into the cashier area and the gallery part completely in the "vault" then I would have absolutly no prob

Uh, one has original art, and the other has collectibles. It's not redundancy when they sell two entirely different products.

I actually agree with MG1969... There's a lot of dead horses being beaten. And once you beat the dead horse, you're only calling the flies to come fight over the dead horse. Think about what MFW turned into... and that was a VERY dead horse. It's only a matter of time before this becomes a dead horse. And it's kind of sad that it has the potential of being dead before even being born. So I say we let the horse live, have time for it to actually come into existence, then kill the horse if we need to, and once it's dead, we leave it.

And I understand all this about not liking the discussion, but you might want to take into account the amount of people reading and participating in this thread. It seems like anyone against beating the dead horse has been given the cold shoulder and literally told to not take part in this discussion anymore. I enjoy reading these threads. They are helpful tools for all of us curious MiceChatters who want to know what's going on in the Disney Parks. And there are plenty of people who disagree with you, so I think that on a high-traffic thread like this, they should be allowed to express their feelings of limitations without receiving a suggestion to go away.
