Disneyland Resort Advertising on Power 106???

I found this quite distasteful that the Disneyland Resort would have promotions for free tickets on an inappropriate radio station. It features rap/hiphop and the songs feature profanity. Is Disneyland really this desperate? What do you think? Before voting please read the whole thread.

I actually listen to Power 106 and I feel that Disney should not associate with a radio station that has songs about sex, rape, etc. I like the radio station personally but I believe Disney and Power 106 just don't mix.

Yes I can see that actually. Though you or I might enjoy a certain type of music that has "adult content" and we are Disney fans that wouldn't automatically mean Disney should be affiliated via ads on a station that plays that kind of content.

While I do hate that horrible kind of music, I don't see a problem with Disneyland trying to get as much business as possible.

Since one would want to advertise to their target audience, I think we're in trouble if that's an element they want in DLR (by way of profanity as Sea Wolf points out). Of course, hip hop rappers aren't necessarily bad people either, right?

I see nothing wrong with it, as long as the advertisements are tasteful. I mean, they want to bring lots of people into the park, obviously. Some of those people are going to be very nice, and others are not. Electing not to advertise on certain radio stations won't change that, IMO.

Looks like the are trying to tap into the Six Flags market. I have no problem with them advertising wherever they wish.

I choose to quote you Data because you made a vary important point. I agree that you cannot judge a persons character based on superficial premises such as what they wear, where they live, or what radio stations they listen to.

They can advertise on the playboy channel for all I care.

So long as the parks are kept clean and the visitors respect them, I could care less.

Power 106 is also a big sponsor for Grad Nites... Disneyland can advertise wherever they want.

I can understand your trepidation Seawolf, but I don't think advertising on an adult orientated hip-hop radio station automatically means it will draw "the wrong crowd." I have a wide variety of music tastes myself (though hip-hop and such aren't typically one of the types i listen to) and some of the stuff I listen to is totally inappropriate for family listening (ah, headphones are bliss) but I still behave myself around my kids and when in public like at DLR. I see no reason why those who listen to adult hip-hop couldn't do the same, and do.

Well said and I completely agree. You really can't judge a book by its cover.

I am sure you are a great person with nothing but good intentions, but with these kinds of quotes you really appear to come off as incredibly biased.

You might as well have said I can’t believe Disney is advertising to “THEM”!

    I’ll duck now.

I agree with this. You can not discriminate against people because of what music they listen too. If I were promoting a product I would advertise wherever I could.

(Now, as a small addendum to what I said before, I will say that I don't agree with listening to music that puts out nasty messages. But it seems pretty unfair to judge someone based solely on that. And I don't know how bad the content of that radio station is; I haven't listened to it.)

Re: Disneyland Resort Advertising on Power 106???

First off, Seawolf think about the fact that you were listening to that station when you heard the advertisement. Do you think it's inappropriate that people similar to you would be advertised to? You obviously are both a Disney fan and a fan of the music that is played on that station. Don't you think there are others that listen to the station that like Disney and aren't the stereotypical listener as you assume they all are?

Secondly, a lot of radio stations are owned by a parent company. After doing a quick google search it says it's owned by Emmis Communications which owns over 20 radio stations nationally, including another one in the LA area. It's possible that Disney bought advertisements to be run on multiple, or even all, of the stations that they own. They probably also are trying to get younger kids to come to DL before summer's over and a hip-hop radio station would definitely be a younger demographic. I don't think you can generalize someone's taste and insinuate it would influence their behavior negatively.

    Curiouser and curiouser...

If I were incredibly biased why do I listen to the station? I never said that all of the people who listen to hip hop are bad people, quite the contrary because I would be calling myself a bad person as well. However, you can't possibly believe that some gang member would want to listen to Kost 103 on a regular basis over this now would you? It's all about demographics, rap and hip hop attract some people who Disney shouldn't be advertising to. This is something I would expect Six Flags to do not Disney. If Disney were to advertise on a porn channel would that be acceptable to you as well? Afterall, there are good people who watch porn too right?
