Disneyland Sunday - Let's talk about the Keepers

Disneyland has been around for 50 years. It may last another 50 years. Then again, who knows?

What are those things that should remain, and never be removed from Disneyland. I call them the Keepers.

Definitely the castle is a keeper. The light in Walt DIsney's Apartment. The 5 p.m. flag raising ceremony. City Hall. The Partner's Statue.

I think you mean the 5pm flag retreat ceremony. That said, we should probably also keep the crack of dawn flag raising ceremony, otherwise.....no retreat. Actually the raising is not much of a ceremony as much as one of us just going out there and raising them.

The Matterhorn, churros, Pirates (although I am openminded about the potential refurbishment), Haunted Mansion, and the cast members, of course!

Oooops!. You can tell how alert I was, when I started this thread this morning. Actually I did do it in a bit of a rush.

Basically I wanted to start a thread with the theme of Disneyland things that should always be there. Permanent. Both buildings, and the intangibles such as the fact that they ceremoniously lower the flag each evening. I think it is 6 p.m. and not 5 p.m. I think WDW is 5 p.m. I apologize for my carlessness this morning.

Disneyland has so many memorable things that I feel should still be there if Disneyland itself is still there in another 50 years.

    Let's try this again

I think the Disney Gallery should stay. It was originally going to be Walt's bigger, better apartment. There is a bit of behind the scenes history there. In the small room off of the patio there is a door diagonal from the door you enter. It is locked. Behind the door is a small hallway which is used as a stockroom. At the end of the hallway is what was going to be a bathroom and the original shower stall is still there.

Re: Disneyland Sunday - Let's talk about the Keepers

Thankfully most of Disneyland is a "keeper!" So many rides, attractions, and even small touches have continued to entertain multiple generations.

I think that the real tragedy is that Disney management has made so many mistakes in replacing things that now people are afraid that anything that gets replaced will be a down-grade. Before, one looked forward to things getting replaced because you knew that the replacement would be better than the original. Hopefully, now under Matt Ouimet there will be continued improvement.

Some "treasures" I hope that they don't replace is Columbia, Snow White's wishing well, the Coke-cola piano player, the Blue Bayou, and the Dapper Dans.

I am sure everyone has their own list.

My rule of thumb (do note it has been violated far too often) is that nothing gets replaced unless something better has been imagineered.

And John Hench knows of what he speaks.

IASW, Peter Pan, HM, PoTC, Rivers of America/Mark Twain, Cinnamon Rolls, Mickey Ice Cream Bars, popcorn, and pancakes (even though I don't like them - can't imagine the park w/o MM pancakes!), castle, Railroad, Main Street, Mickey Mouse Balloons... Monorail and TDH.

Matterhorn, Mansion, Pirates, IASW, DLRR, Thunder, Teacups, Mr. Toad, Alice

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

    Haunted Mansion
    Pirates
    Mr. Toad
    Jungle Cruise
    Matterhorn

    Enchanted Tiki Room

Heck, let's just keep the whole park as it is except for Innoventions and HISTA.
