Disney Imagineering Legends book

Just curious if anyone has bought the Walt Disney Imagineering Legends and the Genesis of the Disney Theme Park book mentioned in todays "Dateline Disneyland". I'm taking a mini vacation at the park this weekend, and I want to buy it if its good. Any feedback of anyone who might have picked up a copy already?

Re: Disney Imagineering Legends book

I picked it up at the NFFC convention and so far its been a good read. There are some new images inside that I had not seen before, although occasionally the resolution leaves something to be desired. All in all its a solid book, and worthy of a place on my bookshelf.

Is it like the previous Imagineering book? If you don't know which one I mean... this book.

If you've read it. :oD

Re: Disney Imagineering Legends book

I might get it on Monday when I go, but it's kinda pricey.

They're different. The book you made this thread about is specifically about the Legends themselves. Legends like Alice and Marc Davis. Bob Gurr. Marty Sklar. Harriet Burns, and the like.

I've picked up the book, and even at $35 it's a good buy. The art-book style of the publication is a bit misleading, though. The book is very text-heavy, even more-so than the recent Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Disney Mountains books by Jason Surrell.

I haven't read the entire book, but I've read a bit, and so far the book has seemed to follow up on its promise of being a candid, inside-look at the original Imagineers. The book has been very open so far about the fact that Walt Disney was somewhat difficult to work for considering he never gave much praise, and was hard to please.

It's refreshing, to say the least, to get a seemingly honest look at the people who created the original Disneyland. There have been plenty of books that claim to be about Imagineering and about the Imagineers -- but they've been very watered-down, candy-coated looks at the WDI division of the Company.

This book seems to change that and gives a new look at WDI.

Again, I haven't read the whole book, only the beginning -- so who knows if it keeps up with the first impressions -- but it seems promising.

Also, this book does have a lot of photos and art, but it seems to be definitely more focused on the stories of the Imagineers -- not necessarily the park they created.

Nevertheless, I recommend it.

Enjoy

Also -- the book is available for a 34% discount at Amazon, selling for $23.10 (regular $35). http://www.amazon.com/Disneys-Legend...8868777&sr=1-1 --- (The Amazon page, interestingly, has different cover art, which I actually prefer to what is actually the cover.)

Re: Disney Imagineering Legends book

^ Yeah, I'm going on Monday also for my birthday. I'm bringing all my B-Day money plus a $50 shopping spree from my parents (yeah, I'm excited!) and this is one of the books that I was planning on buying.

Thanks for the reviews everyone! I'll take a look inside it when I'm there.
