Anyone know about 3rd shift?

I have a few questions about the goings on of the 3rd shift. I'm assuming that this is the crew that works all night while the park is closed. As this crew is interesting to me (I think it would be kinda fun), I would like to know more about it. So, here it goes:
  • What EXACTLY is 3rd shift?
  • Do they work a full 8 hour shift?
  • What lights do they keep on during the night?
  • Do they still play the music in the park during this shift?
  • Do they hose the streets down?
  • I remember hearing, as a kid, that they put on a fresh coat of paint each night. I know they REALLY don't do that, but how often are things touched up?
  • Do the CMs of 3rd shift get to ride any of the rides?
  • What is the atmosphere like? Fun? Boring? Stressful?
  • Are the uniforms, if any, themed?
  • Does Mickey and Minnie get some alone time?
Thanks all!

Re: About 3rd Shift....

3rd shift is maintance. They work on all the rides and clean the parks. Third shift is basically 10 PM to 6 AM and get 3rd shift rate. They do work a full 8 hour shift and paid lunches, I believe. No music. Uniforms are not themed. They do not get to ride the rides. Not sure of the wqork enviornment.

That is all I can tell you. a 3rd shift CM can tell you better then I can.

Any other CMs or 3rd shift CMs want to add to this? Thanks!

Re: About 3rd Shift....

A local news station did a "Disney After Dark" series June 2007, including looking at 3rd shift cast members.

If it was a 183 inches tall, I think the experience wouldn't be quite as... Fun.

Thanks all!
All of the above. Despite being up overnight, making a living tinkering with roller coasters and themed rides, and having Disneyland to yourself overnight is pretty fun on occasion.

Routine inspections can get boring, you're looking at the same thing every night, and trying to keep a fresh eye for variations, so a lot of coffee is generally required.

Like any job, some shifts are busy and some are not. Busy shifts can be very stressful. Not only do we want to get everything repaired / operable by opening, but whichever attraction one works at, you have to remember someone is going to put their children on it in the morning, so the pressure to have it done right, really right, triple checked right, can add up. Busy nights take a lot of personal focus because as craftsmen we hold ourselves personally accountable.

Re: About 3rd Shift....

This summer I was leaving the park at around 9ish and as I walked to my car in the structure I saw a bunch of cast members walking to the park. They were all wearing completely blue uniforms. I assumed that they were third shift.
