Well, he did have two big hits that year, so it's not too random for 1985.

I watched this all the time when I was kid. I was addicted and would still be addicted to this if I still had the VHS tape. Thanks for sharing!

Excellent! It did promote the parks....but more than that it CELEBRATED THEM......and it was a wonderful piece on TV that year.

The 30th Was huge - EVERYONE won something - from theme land pins to cars - they had a big tent outside the park into the parking lot and if memory serves me correctly, they were giving away Buicks and Cadillacs and other GM cars....it as a celebration to end all Disneyland Celebrations. Never since the 30th have I seen such an overwelming display of celebration as I did see that year. It was wonderful......

Wow, what a great post! Thanks for sharing these clips. I worked at the park the year this was made, and it brought back lots of great memories.

I noticed in the 5th clip that the Mad Hatter wasn't a face character back then, haha! Wonder when that changed?

Is that Paul Allen, or Robin Williams doing his "Fossie, Fossie" routine for the finale?

A pox upon thee, Aimster—that song from the finale has wormed its way into my ears and will not go away!

Seriously though, thank you for posting links to the show. Talk about perfect material for a DVD...I'd buy it in a heartbeat for the nostalgia!

Nice. This definitely brought back some memories. It is ashame that Disney doesn't put stuff out like this anymore.

    Re: Disneyland's 30th Birthday Special

Oh, man, this special is great. You got E.T. era Drew Barrymore hosting along with so many 80's icons that all revolves around Disneyland. It always puts tears in my eyes, wishing that Disney cared enough about this kind of stuff today. Then again, it was 1985, a time when the theme parks were truly Disney's most profitable source of income as they were spiraling down towards bankruptcy, so it kinda makes sense they would pour money into an entire TV special for it....
