    New boats for Pirates?

Iíve been informed that the previously listed Pirates month long rehab of Pirates one scheduled for Mid October has been delayed until sometime in early 2009. On a fun note however, the next time you in pirates see if you can spot a couple of boats that look a little different from the rest. Apparently they are currently running two new prototype boats in advance of the early 2009 rehab, trying to work out the bugs and and see what kind of effect these new boats have on the attraction.

    I heard that.

Apparently, each one comes equipped with a life-size resin Johnny Depp figure "skippering" each bateaux.

When I first read this I started bursting out laughing, but then it hit me that Steve might not be joking about this. That it might actually be a serious comment. Disney has sunk so far now that you honestly don't know whether something is real or a joke! Literally.

It's probably a jest, but you never know anymore with Disney.

I guess with all the wear and tear that us fluffies have caused those boats in the last couple of years, a new fleet is badly needed!

You wonder if they might make boats for fewer people. I'm sure the heft of today's guests are affecting the attraction much like small world. Why not put less people in the boat rather then redo all the inside? Just a thought.

While it's down for refurb I vote they put more characters in.
Nothing would be cuter than Mickey Mouse with a pirate suit on.
This is Disneyland we're talking about, not a museum!

As long as they quit holding out on us and put that loop in they've been teasing us with for years.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Hooray for new boats! I really hope the Johnny Depp comment was a joke, that would be sad, everyone would be taking pictures of it (most likely with a flash because they don't listen) and ruin the ride for people that are trying to see what has been changed since the refurb. I'm not aware of the loop that they are teasing us with, is there somewhere I could find it?

The Johnny Depp thing was a joke.

So was the loop thing by Mycroft.

The loop thing, as far as I know, goes back to the Space Mountain refurb of 2003-2005 when it was widely rumored that a loop was being put in. Since then, any time a ride is getting refurbed, they are "adding a loop." It has become a joke. I just decided to put it more seriously.

I heard they were adding steps to the boats so that guest no longer have to step on the seats.

There are seats? I always thought we were sitting on the steps.

"Whether in his movies or in his theme parks, Disney always promised a fantasy in which one could exercise the privileges of childhood - privileges he never abandoned in his own life. This will to power took the inanimate and brought it to life, or the illusion of like. In animation one could exercise the power of a god." - Neal Gabler, writer-'Walt Disney, The Triumph of The American Imagination'
