Smile Will it return? YOAMD garb...

I don't know if this had been brought up in one of the threads but I was thinking about this and wanted to bring it up....

In Darkbeer's update today he showed how the YOAMD stuff atop the entrance gates to DL had been removed in prep. for the Halloween decorations. Now what with all the WWYC (What Will You Celebrate...you knew it was inevitable) stuff going on...do you think the YOAMD stuff will return before the year is out? The same thing goes for the CALIFORNIA letters...after they're done with their Halloween layover do you think the blue/white will return?

The park will be decked out for the holidays after the Halloween stuff comes down. But you never know.

I don't know why so many people here didn't/don't like the YOAMD...

I liked the promotion. We won some really great stuff. What I didn't like where the original YOAMD decorations (which are long gone) and all those clouds. A little is cute, a lot not so much.

I'm happy for anyone who enjoyed it, and I'm sure there were plenty who got prizes and were thrilled. But my reasons for disliking the promotion, approximately from most to least important, are:

* Visual intrusions by amateurish, tacky decorations that break theme in unpleasant ways and advertise to the people who need it the least--parkgoers.

* The fact that each individual person has very little chance of getting anything of any real value.

* The sparse and confusing explanations of the promo.

* The replacement of a public area--the Disney Gallery--with a private one. The emphasis is again on the privilege of the random few, not the happiness of the whole guest populace.

Granted, if I'd ever gotten a Dream FastPass, my thoughts on the YOAMD might be a little different. But I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Yeah, I probably went to Disneyland at least 30 times during YOAMD and I never got one little prize. Plus, the decorations all over place took away from the beauty of the park.

Re: Will it return? YOAMD garb...

Data summed that up really well. No one is going to complain about winning something free, but with Disneyland being a gift to all the world, so should the promotions be. Not just to a few. Even had I won something, I still would not have agreed with the promotion.

Unfortunately I can see this over the ticket booths exactly where the old YOAMD stuff was. I really hope I'm wrong, but, it looks too similar to the YOAMD logo to ignore...

Back in the 80s they had a huge contest where you could win a CAR every day (or at least I think it was every day). Anyway, a car is a lot nicer than a cheap old lanyard or mouse ears. Why make a big deal out of this promotion when you're not likely to win something, and if you do, it can be compared to the prize in a box of Cracker Jack?

This being said, I did win a Dream Fastpass once. But it was on a rainy day in January and the longest line was 15 minutes for Space Mountain. I needed those like the proverbial hole in the head. And on one Sunday me and about 30 Micechatters went to Tiki Room. I left before the majority of the group did, and when the rest of the group left they all had lanyards! I went back up to the exit to see if I could get a lanyard and I was told that I had to be exiting the Tiki Room at a specific time and that I was too early. All this for a stupid cheap lanyard that didn't cost them more than 25 cents! How cheap can you get?

With the new promotion I know I will be getting something nice for my birthday. And it is worth a lot more to me than the garbage they were giving away during the YOAMD.

The Year of a Million Dreams may end but Rasulo's homoginisation of the parks will continue.

Re: Will it return? YOAMD garb...

yeah, unfortunately, they will probably just paint balloons on the clouds! bleah.

and YES!!! Give us back the Disney Gallery!

Special Give Aways should really only be done for REAL celebrations, primarily DL's Birthday! like they did for the 30th and 35th.

And there should have been a more fare way of distributing prizes to ALL guests, regardless of what time of day they enter the parks. Right at the entrance, for each guests first entrance of the day.

These non celebrations make a mockery or REAL celebrations.

Re: Will it return? YOAMD garb...

I haven't gone to DL thinking that I would win something. I've gone because I wanted to enjoy Walt's gift to us. In the last four visits,
I've never been "dreamed," nor did I expect to be. I automatically win when I walk through the tunnel into Main Street. It doesn't take being "dreamed" to be a winner.
