    Re: Honor New Orleans (Square)?

I don't think they should add anything to NOS, but it might be a honorable touch to step up the entertainment a bit for a while. do they still have people throw beaded necklaces out to the crowd everyday? I think it would be a nice touch if they distributed alot more or gave them out at the gate.

I just kind of assumed that disneyland would do something subtle and tasteful to acknowledge this tragedy without taking away from the beauty of NOS...I was thinking of just a pretty wreath hung between the buildings like they do at Christmas, with a simple saying....just a little remembrence saying we are aware and we care...it would be something that it you arnt affected you wouldnt really notice, but if you are, you would appreciate...NOS is so special, both the real one and DL, that a small, sweet, unobtrusive gesture I think would be in very good taste....but that is JMHO

The idea of Disneyland is that you leave your troubles at the door. After the last large hurricane hit Florida, Cast Members were instructed not to mention it to any of the people who came to Disneyland from that area.

I know that, if I had just survived a disaster, I would not want to be reminded about it at The Happiest Place On Earth.

Then why did they have the 9/11 flag at the American Adventure? And also, didn't Michael Eisner make a speech in a ceremony at Disneyland about September 11th shortly after that day?

And there are plaques at both WDW and the DLR for the Columbia explosion. Some events in our lives need to transcend the barriers around Disney's fantasy lands. This is one of those events that people shouldn't forget about and do need to be reminded about over the coming months and years.

Yup, they had a ceremony in Town Square commemorating the re-raising of the flag.

And I hate people calling it the American Adventure, its the USA Pavilion!

Well, technically it was hanging (in a sealed-off frame) in the lobby/pre-show area to the American Adventure, so that's why I said AA.

    Re: Honor New Orleans (Square)?

I don't know exactly what but something deeply touched me about New Orleans. NY 9/11 was a tragedy, as was London 7/7 etc, but New Orleans was a different kind of tragedy, and it had nothing to do with that this was not man's fault. I wanted to make it to New Orleans one day, I am a big fan of jazz and the blues, and I love the architecture and the history of the city. It is such a cultured place, and from my point of view, if I had to pick one of the major American cities to visit, I would pick New Orleans over New York, Washington, LA. I felt furious when I say the pictures of people looting clothes shops, and I saw an old lady close to death on the news yesterday. As has been said in this thread before, it would be nice to have a subtle acknowledgement, which I think is the half way point between 'you should leave your troubles at the gate' and 'it should be acknowledged, it is so important'.

I know they had a moment of silence, but beyond that I have no idea...anyway, I know that they might acknowledge it publicly, but chances are slim that a memorial of some kind will be erected in NOS. Not that a memorial would be bad or anything, I just don't think it will happen.

Yea, I think they should do something that is tasteful and respectful.

This disaster has gotten me in a foul mood. More so than others, not that they weren't just as tragic. I guess it hits home more.

I'm certain Disney will find an appropriate way to honor the victims of this tragedy.

    What? Where?

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe...

I find this very inappropriate and it trivializes whats happening....this whole thread feels that way.
