They are? To whom?

I've been to WDW several times, and it is a very impressive resort area. But that's what it feels like to me....a resort area. Ginormous.
Disneyland has a nice, peaceful, intimate feeling about it. I don't see it as being overdone in the least.
I think WDW would have been really nice if they had just left it as the Magic Kingdom and Epcot....and then focused all their creative attention on those two parks. IMO it's a little too overwhelming as is (not that it isn't indeed impressive).
When I go to WDW, I feel like I'm on the run, because there is so much to see.
I come home to Orange County, spend an afternoon and evening at Disneyland, soak up the intimacy, and feel totally at peace. Something I don't feel as much at WDW.
I do prefer Disneyland.

To clear up the issue on how much land Disney owns in Anaheim, this is what my friend said in another forum on another site.

Disney owns Katella Av. from Beach Blvd. to the 5 Freeway. The land South of Ball Rd, North of Katella Av., and West of Harbor Blvd, Strawberry fields, the Katella Cast Member lot, and the Hilton & Anaheim Convention Ctr. It is about a 4 and one half mile by 1 and a half mile stretch of land.

Even if Walt could have afforded more land (which would be a big bonus now a days), back then I think he would have used the extra cash to open the park with more attractions. Think about how much of the park wasn't developed on opening day. People have heard about Walt wanting to utilize every nook of the park for something, I'm sure he would have loved to open the park with more attractions. Sure, in hind sight he probably would have wanted to buy more areas around the park to get rid of the eye sore that Harbor Blvd became, but that is the lesson he learned and applied when he bought the land for WDW.

While I'd certainly like the resort if it was larger, I'd take my intimate, charming, pedestrian-friendly resort over one where you need a map to know where you are going.

The best part about our resort is that you can walk to everything. Downtown Disney, the hotels, and the parks are all within walking distance. No complicated bus routes, no hotels that are a half-hour away from the parks. It's all there, in your reach. That is why I enjoy Disneyland. It's more laid-back.
