Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I am a bigger guy, not huge by any meens But I am wondering if I will have much difficulty on Space Mountain or not? I am not really concerned about any other ride.. Any other guest of size with experience or suggestion? I am also tall..

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

California or Orlando?

In Orlando, I feel cramped on Space Mountain (little or no leg room) and I'm a medium build guy, about 6'. However, its not terrible and I don't feel cramped as far as seat size at all. I also don't think you'll ever have to worry about height.

In California, even though the cars seat two per row, it feels much more comfortable. There is more leg room and the seats are a better shape, so I assume you'd have less to worry about here.

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I'm not large by any means...in fact, I have kinda the opposite problem...but based on my observations, I don't think it should be a big problem - wow, that was a poor choice of words. The seats are fairly accommodating. I hope it works out for you! Definitely a great attraction.

And the height thing shouldn't be an issue. That I'm certain of.

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I used to work on Space Mountain.

I must be honest here... Some people are indeed too large to ride, but there is no official weight or size limit.

Basically, if you can fit in the seat, you can ride. The seats can usually fit fairly large people.

BUT PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do all the CM's and guests behind you in line a favor and don't wait until you're getting on the ride to realize you won't fit. The CM's only have 20 seconds to get guests on AND off the vehicle before the ride cascades (breaks down). There just isn't time to fiddle and twiddle with "Maybe I can fit this way... no... wait a second, maybe this way..."

The best way to find out if you can fit is to ask a CM (the one grouping and asking "how many in your party?") if you can try to fit in the seat using what is called the RTT "Ready Transfer Table" rocket.

The RTT rocket is a special rocket that is held off to the side of the station to allow for disabled guests to take as much time as they need to enter and exit the vehicle without affecting the rest of the station operations. Once the guests are comfortably seated in the RTT rocket, the CM presses a button and the rocket slides over to the main track. When the ride is over, the CM knows to send the RTT rocket back to the side-dock again so you can exit.

Don't be afraid to ask. The CM's and managers would rather put you on the RTT rocket than have you unintentionally cause a ride cascade, thus causing a 30 minute breakdown. The CM's will be happy that you understand how it all works and they will assist you every step of the way. At least I would... but I was too expensive so they laid me off. (bring in the cheap labor)

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

my husband is 6'5" and just shy of 300lbs and the only problem he has is getting his legs settled. but now he's got it down, cross the ankles..then sit down.

also, dont' sit in the front row of the vehicle, it looks bigger but its acutally not leg-wise

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I'm 6'2", 350 lbs and I fit okay. The only issue I have is with my knees and that I fix by crossing my legs under the seat. Just don't sit in the front row of either car of the rocket. It has much less legroom.

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I would like to thank the OP and those who answered! I was getting a little worried about this also, and was just a tad too embarressed to ask it.

I tend to shy away from roller coasters becuase they where made smaller then my butt was.

How is California Screamin' for the bigger people?

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

I am a bigger guy as well. 6'5" about 290 and I fit OK. I have to use the crossed legs trick as well. Though I feel like I am overflowing out of the seat, I don't have much of an issue.

California Screamin isn't really an issue either. I usualy have to cross my legs there as well (due to my large feet). In fact I think I fit better in Screamin over Space Mt.

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

A close friend of mine is about 6'2" and 350lbs (or so) and he does just fine on Space. He's found a way to sit comfortably (crossing ankles) and it seems to work just fine!

Have a great time!

I fit better in Screamin' than in space. It's a larger train.

Re: Larger guests and Space Mountain?

Also, the leg room in the middle set of seats is slightly more than the other parts of the train. The problem I have isn't fiting in the seats, Its the lap bar cutting off the circulation around my knees.
