Thumbs down My BIGGEST complaint about Disneyland...

A few months ago, I was at Disneyland and the group I was with said "Hey! Let's go eat at Hungry Bear!". This wasn't anything new to me or the group since we had all eaten there, before. However, since I met up with the group after I had already eaten, I wasn't much hungry for dinner but I was craving something sweet.

And what's on the menu for dessert at HB? Funnel Cake! What could possibly go wrong?

    ...well

I ordered a funnel cake with the little chocolate brownie pieces, received it, and took it back to my table with my crew. I took one bite and, hands down, it was the worst funnel cake I had ever had. There is no doubt that Hungry Bear cooks it's funnel cakes in the same oil that they cook their fries in. The funnel cake literally tasted like a mound of stale french fries with chocolate sauce and whipped cream on top. It was absolutely horrible. I was seriously shocked that it was SO bad, especially since I was at Disneyland and can't remember ever eating anything that tasted even remotely bad there.

Has anyone else ever had them or am I tooting a one man horn, here?

Knott's Berry Farm's funnel cake is probably the best I've ever had. From what I've heard about Hungry Bear's is that it's frozen and then they deep fry it. It's not the liquid dough that they shape in the oil.

    Sounds delicious eh?

Believe it or not, Magic Mountain funnel cakes are better than Knott's (but dont tell the Farm I said that )

That's seriously your biggest complaint? Ok, I can respect that.

I really like knott's funnel cakes, they are tasty. I have never had DL funnel cake. I love DL churros tho.

PS, my biggest complaint is TOO MANY STROLLERS! but, there really isn't anything to be done about that i guess.

Hey, I was shocked that it was so bad.

You'd think that, with the popularity of funnel cakes at other parks, Disneyland would put in a shop for them specifically and make them right. You know they'd sell, especially if they're cooked in something other than french fry oil.

I had no idea that Six Flags had funnel cake!

This is off-topic, but when I worked at Wild Rivers I got to work in the "Sweet Shoppe" dessert buillding and make funnel cake. It's so much fun because you just pour the batter and make cool designs. No pre-made frozen yuck there.

Disneyland hands down has the worst funnel cakes, they are not made fresh, they are frozen and re-heated.

IMO best is Knotts, followed by Magic Mountain, in third would be my hubby's (he bought the kit from Knotts.

I've had OK ones at the AZ state fair and the Puyallup fair.

Seriously, I can't believe Disney doesn't make these things fresh. It's not like they can't afford it, and if Six Flags and Knott's can make awesome funnel cakes then Disney should at least give them a run for their money.

Dude... The Boardwalk's (in Santa Cruz) funnel cakes are worth your left pinky.
    I swear.

Sorry your funnel tasted like a fry. :/

To live would be an awfully big adventure.

You could post this in the guest relations forum. Someone relevant might read it and sart the ball rolling for a change.

Until then, I suggest you don't eat anything at DL. That'll teach them.

Ewww funnel cake tasting like french fries is not good. I love funnel cake and Knott's tops my list.

I had some funnel cake by the Golden Horseshoe once. It was good though it was smothered in strawberries and whipped cream.

My favorite has to be the beignets at Cafe New Orleans or by Jazz Kitchen. So yummy.

I once had a funnel cake at Farmers Market in DCA. I didn't have any complaints, especially since it didn't cost me a penny.

I complained but didn't ask for a refund. I just brought it back up to the counter and told them it was horrible then left it there.
