Yes Disney has a lot of money but the engines on the subs ran on Diesel fuel very costly in the Disney Managements opinion. That was one of the reasons I have read.
1st Amendment-Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The main chatter leading up to it's demise - Promise from Pressler a new E Ticket attraction would replace it by 2003. And the cost of maintaining it was big gripe by corporate.

Continually lower attendance figures and fuel and maintenance costs were high.

Basically, there weren't enough people riding the Subs to warrant them open.

.. and think of Autopia's gas price tag now. The Toyota Prius is more "futuristic" than a car ride in TOMORROWland.

I think Disneyland's Autopia should introduce the first fleet of hydrogen-powered autopia cars.

And nuclear power for the subs!

    Nuclear power?

"If memory serves, there was a dubious flirtation with nuclear fission reactors resulting in toxic side effects. By the beginning of the fusion era, these reactors had been replaced."

Long live the future of mankind .......... and the development of Fusion, NOT Fission.

I would like to see a more cost effective Hybrid Sub half diesel, half electric. Or maybe just maybe have them hydrogen powered.

Most the subs ran on Desil.. one or 2 had natural gas i think... but no matter what... they could try to get better engines in these thigns.. and save on polution credits.. lol

Hydrogen powered subs.. hmm... would that work?? where is a area to test a sub when we need it.. oh ya.. they filled it in.. while the other is being upgraded...

Actually (not to confuse you) .. it was a general comment on new energies the world should be developing for day-to-day life .. not just a 1959 sub attraction in Disneyland.

Aah ok,that makes a lot more sense. I would love to see vehisles running off of one of the earths most abundant reasources. We could bot use oxygen, in high consentrations that might just make the car explode. maybe a forced air air system would work a batter could power the pistons which would force the what ever it is called to move the car forward....Wait This Idea sounds Familiar, Ah well.
