Should IASW Disney Characters be only Holiday Overlay?

This thread is not about the removal of the Rainforest and the American Tribute. It isn't about the letter written by Marty, or the appropriateness of Disney Characters in IASW. This is a simple question.

One thing I enjoy about holiday overlays is that they are not permanent. For a couple months I have Jack in the HM, and Christmas in IASW, then it's back to normal. It provides a break from the norm, and when the old favorite comes back then it is seen in a new light with renewed interest. Thinking about this made me think about the upcoming unveiling of the "Disney" IASW. Per Al it is to be unveiled after the Holiday is over. Personally I wish it was part of the Holiday overlay. Literally part of it. I would love to see the characters be brought out on a temporary basis, specifically for the holiday season.

This would do several things. For those who wanted IASW minus the characters, it would give them the old IASW back (in a manner of speaking... miss the Rainforest). For those wanting the characters, it would allow the characters to be seen on a limited basis. Most important for those in TDA who feel the need to market Disney characters, it would be marketing them at the most opportune time to the largest audience. It would market the characters, around the holiday, to the holiday crowd who would likely be seeking souvenirs as presents!

So I pose this question to all of you. Would this be a middle ground? Would it be better if the characters were seen on a temporary basis, allowing for the best of both worlds? Hopefully the posts and opinions will focus on this, as there are plenty of other threads devoted to the tangents listed above.

I'd be okay with it more during the holidays than all year round. But it's not the Disney characters that bother me so much anymore... it's that darn "gung ho america" scene that replaced the rainforest.

Sounds good to me. I'd be completely fine with that.

I think this sounds like a good compromise, I like the idea.

Too late I'm afraid for any such compromise although I will say it is not a bad idea. But personally, I'm not pining away for the old in Small World. I think the characters will enliven what is a tired old attraction and make it more accessible for today's kids.

Such a better compromise. I love it.

Come celebrate the holidays with your Disney Characters.

I'm fine with anything for just an overlay.

That was my thought actually. Something similar to Jack's overlay of HM. As the Disney characters help decorate and celebrate the holidays with the children of the world!

I'll bet the characters are going to be a great addition. Everyone hemmed and hawed about the addition of Jack Sparrow in Pirates. How is this any different?

Techskip specifically said this thread wasn't about that sort of thing. There are definite similarities, yes, which is part of the problem. It's been discussed in plenty of other threads.

Without maintaining this tangent... many are not impressed by this permanent addition and the incessant "Capt Jack Sparrow" calls that echo ever couple minutes.

How does Disney characters for just the holiday make any sense? They would might as well keep 'em in all year.

It would be the same as Jack decorating Mansion for Halloween/Holidays... the Disney Characters are there to help decorate and celebrate the holidays with the children of the world. I can actually see a lot of advertising potential in this (thinking TV commercials, and photo ads of various characters decorating with small world children). Likewise it would only be during the holidays, which would allow the old Small World to return.

I should say that aside from the holidays IASW isn't even on my list let alone near the top. The little ones are excited about the characters being in IASW, some of my Disney friends are upset, personally aside from the Rainforest scene I really don't care. So I saw this as a way to please everyone (except me since the Rainforest is presumed ripped out at this point)

I'm not thrilled, the novelty has worn off. Nobody cares anymore and the Jacks have become nothing but a shrug off by repeat visitors to the park. At the expense of the ride's theme, the park has made an everlasting attraction gain the novelty of two years before it all wore off and stuff started breaking.

The same will be with ISAW, something that has an everlasting theme will lose its novelty in two years and everyone already knows there are characters so they don't need to see them again. Because all the ride is about is the characters now.

This isn't to open an argument but it's the truth.

Re: Should IASW Disney Characters be only Holiday Overlay?

Why have the characters only come out for Christmas? If the characters prove to be popular additions, why not have them all the time? To hear some folks on these boards, they'd rather have Small World Holiday all year long anyway.
