I personally don't believe it because TDS's infrastructure doesn't support it. You can't drain TDS's lagoon like they did with DCA's because DCA's is just a body of water with no real significance, while TDS's is a major part of the park, and has boat rides going across it (hence the reason BraviSEAmo is all barges) and isn't really dammed anywhere, for easy draining. Just wanted to post it because it's going around.
I guarantee you that TDS could just as easily drain their entire lagoon. Yes, this would have an effect on the entire park, but it could just as easily be done there. However...

What flynn says is perfectly true. If they want to work on just one section of the lagoon, there are "choke points" all along the length of what is really a wide river. Caissons could be erected at the bridges and the individual sections pumped dry or drained. I'm sure this has all been in the plans since the beginning of the park. This is how they work on bridge pylons out in San Fransisco bay... build a coffer dam, pump it dry and build away. This is how the Hoover Dam was built. Diver the rivers flow, dam the upstream and downstream to leave a section in the middle that can be pumped out and dried in which to build the dam.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

just a note.. you're mixing caissons (submergable barriers) and coffer dams You use coffer dams to divert or block off entire areas. Caissons are used to sink a barrier around something or even work on the bottom without draining anything but the work space.

But as you say.. both are possibilities. With the depth of the water, either is quite simple to do. Draining when feasible is usually cheaper and faster in the long run vs. the higher cost of working underwater or with caissons.

No, I know what both are... I just didn't explain very well which I was talking about. Thanks for pointing out my errors there though =D I don't always catch them.

I was also checking out the plans for the rest of the park and I find the current monorail track quite a problem not just for Hollywood and the National Park area, but for the entrance. It's bridge is going to block the weenie and it's really off theme. Didn't Al post about the desire to extend the tracks around the park with stops at various hotels? That would be a massive improvement to DCA and would make the whole resort more exciting.
With the Monorail track going directly through the Grand Californian and how it all relatees to Downtown Disney -- I doubt that there simply isn't any way to get the Monorail track out of DCA at this point. That is one of the many infrastructure flaws from DCA 2001 that Imagineering in 2009 has to learn to live and work with.

Wouldn't the nozzles for WOC be to close to the surface for that to work with the boats they use during the day? Plus I think their lagoon or bay that they have setup is far to large for a show like this to cover no?

Any how, both ears are gone woot!

The part that is used for BraviSEAmo isn't that much larger than the PP lagoon. Their whole lagoon is huge, but is the whole of the TDS lagoon used for the show?

Not the whole lagoon but a large center section of it is used as far as I've seen, you can see it here from live maps which took a pic of it in show mode luckily enough. Seems to be much larger than DCA's lagoon no?

Ok, so I took these images from google maps at the same scale of 20m. I cut the PP Lagoon image and rotated it, overlaying the viewing ampitheaters. I dropped the opacity on the PP Overlay so you can see the TDS Lagoon beneath it.

You can see that the TDS Lagoon extends further to the left in this image, but that the PP lagoon extends further to the right. All told, the surface area is probably pretty dang close.

I keep hearing this summer and fall (basically after the Sun Wheel reopens). Work on the swings needs to happen while the lagoon is empty.

In which it has already started. The ground beneath Stinger has all been torn out around the orange.

It seems huge in pictures. But in person, it is not much bigger than the Paradise Bay. It is shaped differently.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

There are several reasons I don't see Wonderful World of Color going to TDS

1. WOC is gonna be meant for one view point area. If you haven't noticed, the main string of jets is facing directly at the new viewing area. That simply wouldn't work in TDS. You would need at least 4 different screens going around. And that much equipment would stop the boat transportation system.

2. This doesn't seem very Sea-like to me. Yes there will be lots of water and fire, but with many more references like Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, ect., I just don't see it happening.
