Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

Both the CM's at the preview center and most other sources I trust have said basically to ignore the Screamin' model because that's not at all what has been decided. The only thing that they've confirmed is that the Mickey will come down and be replaced with the PP sign and star burst graphics. I'm not sure of the timeline for the work to actually be done, but I'm pretty sure it will be done before WOC opens, so probably early next year.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

As far as I know the boardwalk around the wheel is sitll in the plan and should happen. The big diference is that the final concept for the wheel and surrounding area is not what you see in that model. That model was just used for presentation purposes a couple years back. Things have been plussed, changed and or removed from the project for the moment

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

I might be the only person that thinks this, but it seems that with the retheming of the entrance to 1920's Los Angeles with the art deco motifs and Red Car that it presents the perfect opportunity for some sort of Rocketeer reference. I know it's an old, not very financially successful movie but it's always been one of my favorites. I know at Disney World they have a small drink stand named after Peevy. I always hoped they make some small reference to the movie in Condor Flats, a sign painted in a plane hanger or something, but this gives them another opportunity.

While I agree you 200%, (i've wanted a rocketeer attraction in condor flats but there's no space, i also want to see a south sees club), we try to refrain from armchair imagineering in the tracker thread.

But 1920s Los Angeles is one thing... wasn't Rocketeer in the mid 40s or 50s? Some things will carry over for sure, but it's not even the same decade.

It was set in the late 1930s, early 1940s, smack in the middle Hitler's rise to power.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

CF is probably going away, so maybe not the best spot anymore, but I agree a Rocketeer attraction could be perfect for DCA, and Disney should use properties that make for good attractions, not just ones that sell the most merch. It could go in Cars Land, the timeline and setting would work, if they just gave it a more generic desert theme and title.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

A Rocketeer attraction could work best in Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Hollywoodland is the era and location that Rocketeer took place in. This would then fit in with the desire by many to see a 30s/40s era club like the South Seas club. This could further strengthen the theme and add multipe venues for people to visit that would be both thrilling and highly themed.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

Actually it could go in the remaining parking lot, it could be a good transitional area from HL to CL.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

This brings up interesting questions for any Phase II the project may have. Though I'd rather not bring them up in there and be the derailer of the thread

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

One of the defiinite pros of being a company with as long of a history as Disney has, is that it has a wealth of material to draw from. They can theme a section of a park with as much subtlety or blatancy as they want, and have it blend into the area. If it's subtle, guests might see it and not really think about it. But then if they ever see the movie or show that it's from, they might feel as though the show is already familiar to them and not know why.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

I'm sorry, but there's no way Disney is ever going to make a Rocketeer movie. It just won't be profitable.

I'm being serious. I mean out of the general public, who really knows this movie?

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

Do you mean a Rocketeer attraction? Because there already was a movie.
Perhaps an attraction wouldn't bring in the masses, but maybe some sort of nod to the film while still maintaining the theme of the area wouldn't hurt.
