Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

That's what Netflix is for, dland_lover! I love my Netflix! My queu has, like over 400 titles in it right now. Will I watch them all soon? No. Currently, I have two Shakespeare plays and Jim Henson's "Storyteller: Greek Myths"!
There I go off topic again.

I really miss those shows...

And I'm too cheap to buy the DVDs.
I have all the sets that Disney took out. The sad thing is that none of these shows will be completed on DVD, since Disney will probably not take out the final DVD sets for DuckTales, Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck and Gummi Bears. The reason is low sales well d'uh since Disney is too cheap to put some bonus features on these season sets. Gargoyles needs two more sets to be released but due to low sales they won't see the daylight ever. The other sad part is that Toon Disney doesn't show most of these shows anymore. Thanks a lot Jetix.

Rocketeer does stack up as a memorable movie, and does fit in great with the 1930's era that DCA is trying to transfor the entry area into. And for the 1991 movie to have a following says good things about it. A few months ago I happened to catch it again on some cable station, and I liked it even better than when I first saw it in the theaters. Love to have some of the "South Seas" restaurant music in the Hollywood area, instead of the more modern movie soundtracks, and toontown sounding pages for various characters.

Back to the Rocketeer, The music was very well received, in fact music was used for trailers of several other movies. And Disney must haved like the music too, as it is one of the few songs used for the Orbitron in Tomorrowland AND as one of the songs in Condor Flats.

Oh, and Disney must still think pretty highly of the movie, as the helmet from the movie is right next to Mary Poppis hat and Davy Crockett's coon skin cap (or maybe you haven't learned about those, yet either), in the entry area to the Disney archives, this summer.

And yes, the general public likes and remembers the movie too.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

Anyway, back on topic, although "Relevance" is very much an issue at all the Disney parks.

I really like the theming on the walls in Paradise Pier, it shows that they're going all out for this and they want the public to know it. "We know we screwed up, now look how awesome we're gonna make it look."

EDIT: Now back off topic, what's up with the LinkBacks? Do we really have to keep a list of who's linking to us?

Doesn't mean people know the movie or where the song is from.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

I'm reposting these photos here because they're obviously relevant to this thread...

Photos are from November 8, and were originally posted in my PHOTO UPDATE 11/8: WDW Christmas Special filming, Paradise Bay draining, +MORE! thread

...Paradise Pier's makeover is picking up speed...

Paradise Bay is emptying more and more every day...

This water draining into the bay seems to be counter-productive, no?

Blue tarps up on the Games of the Boardwalk

And as scaffolding climbs higher up around the Sun Wheel...

...The entire Sun Wheel marquee has been removed completely.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

I'm a little behind on knowing the current construction plans...

Obviously, work on the games and the Sun/Fun Wheel is underway. And the lagoon is being drained to start work on WoC.

Will they also be starting work on the Orange? And what about the WoC viewing area? It seems like if they are either expanding or reworking the lagoon wall for the viewing area, that now would be a good time to do that.

The World of Color and Outdoor Amphitheater/Viewing Area are interconnected projects. I imagine that the viewing area will start construction after the holiday season, but I don't have solid info on that...

Perhaps Baloo might know?

MG, how come there is no mention of the Orange Stinger / Silly Symphony Swings in the original post?

There is. The Orange Stinger is grouped with Mullholland Madness' project. Until there are clearer dates on each project, I'll just leave them grouped together...

Mullholland Madness re-theme, Orange Stinger retheme to Silly Symphony Swings
Project Status: To begin 2009
Open Date: By 2010 opening of World of Color

I think you're right basically. The preview center says spring 2009 for the swings so those have to start soon. In terms of the viewing area, I don't think that the lagoon edge is really changing, but some of the heights of the walls may be lowered to allow a steeper grade to create more terraced viewing areas. I'm not sure if that's going to be what they're goind to do, but it would make sense and definitely would be a lot easier to do while the lagoon is drained. If that's the case and they'll be closing that area soon I wonder where they'll move the smoking area. I'm also wondering what if anything will be done around the Rustworthy and Zephyr as well as near Screamin'.

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

Oh, you might be right. In either case I think they'll at least need to do some work on the swings while the water is drained.

Ditto with the Rocketeer. Even if people don't know where it is, why should that stop them from building a top-notch attraction using that as the theme?
