that would be nice but wouldn't that make it just another carousel found coast to coast in many amusement park.

I am just trying to understand this constant believe that every attraction needs to tie directly to the California theme. Can't it just tie in to the Land's theme which already has a tie to the overall parks theme and maybe during the process have a little of the Disney detail added to it if necessary.

Especially when it comes to the pier. Old seaside piers had an eclectic array of themes and architecture even the dozen or so that dotted California's coast
Well, you asked what kind of carousel would fit the theme of the entire park...so I responded to that. And yes, I guess that could be like any old carousel. I happen to like King Triton's Carousel, its just not very well placed, as others have stated before. And whose belief are you trying to understand, WDI's? or MCers...cuz you know how many people would change the the theme if they could...

Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II

As I said, I agree with you Baloo, and I don't see the need to build a new carousel when the existing carousel itself is nice. It just needs a new building that fits the new theme and a layout where guests can walk all the way around and enjoy it and the organ should be properly featured. I still think it should be moved closer to TLM ride, but in any case the existing location just doesn't work well for a carousel and feels really cramped and odd looking with the new TSMM building.

The sad truth is that MC'ers are smarter than most Imagineers.

I have to say that that is an unfair assumption. I think the awful truth is that the Imagineers have to do the best with what they're given. And most of the time they're given the money to do what they will at the parks with the precondition that it ties into a popular film or franchise. And because of that, their work is less creative than it can be because "Blue Sky" isn't a reality when they're dreaming up concepts -- it's more like "Film Sky."

Uh, no.

Just no.

We may have more creativity than the imagineers at times, but we have no budget constraints or corporate crap to deal with and can dream without restraint.

Not to mention we're not all trained artists and/or engineers with experience in building attractions that have to appeal to millions, single time and repeat visitors alike, nor the knowledge of all the latest technologies.

King Triton's Carousel does have some nice callbacks to historic California piers such as Lick Pier and Santa Monica Pier. They are panels above the carousel, if that makes sense. I think the carousel fits in well with the pier theme. Sometimes vintage carousels would be themed to a particular local such as under the see. The fact that it's the Little Mermaid's under the see is inconsequential.

I do think that there are better ideas that come up in MC. And that the imagineers just don't think of those things. Because some ideas I know a suit would like.

In Other words,

RIP Sun Wheel, my most favorite icon of DCA. I will miss your face and I won't miss Mickey's when he is eventually torn down.

In the long term, like 20 years. Yes, the wheel will go bye bye.
