![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II They should save the sun face and move it to the mickey head on Screamin' - then just remove the Mickey ears from Screamin' - done! I like the Sun Wheel's new colors - but I will miss the Sun Face and sun icon. I hope it lives on somewhere - like where the Mickey Head is on Screamin (if I say it enough it will happen!)

![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II I adore the new colors... Can't wait to see the wheel finished! It's supposedly opening the day before I go to Disneyland, so I might be one of the first to ride the semi-new Fun Wheel!

![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II The sun face is an integral part of the wheel. It is not a load bearing piece, but it is directly integrated with load bearing elements of the wheel. The Epcot wand was added well after the geosphere was built. It was attached only enough to keep it upright and safe. It was designed to be very easily taken down. The face on the wheel was never intended to be removed. Another reason: The Mickey face may not be completed yet. Way bring the crane in, remove the current, take the crane out, bring it back in when Mickey done, etc. Cranes are expensive to keep on-site. They will wait until they can get the one down and the other up in the least possible amount of time, preferably one or two days. Patience. Construction schedules are meticulously worked out. A has to happen before B before C and within certain time frames. Delays often happen, but things still have to happen in a certain order.

![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II We don't really know what the scope of work on Screamin' is yet. I have no idea what the extent of the work is so it's pretty hard to estimate. Also, I'm not sure how they'll be doing the new sun graphics. |

![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II It also doesn't make sense to take the sun face off until they're ready to put the Mickey face up. I'm sure that whatever is currently under the sun is less than picturesque, and there's no need to make the Pier look any more unsightly than it already does, what with the scaffolding and the empty lake. Also, since the Mickey head is the most striking and obvious component of the redo, I'd imagine that they'll wait until everything else is done before putting it up. I could be wrong, but my guess is that once they switch the faces, people will start thinking of it as Mickey's Fun Wheel, not the Sun Wheel, and I bet they want rest of the wheel to look as visually impressive as possible when they do make the switch. It'll be the first "future attraction" previewed by the Blue Sky Cellar to come to fruition, and I doubt they want people feeling underwhelmed.

While some people seem t be anxious to see some results, personally, I am NOT at all looking forward to the Mickey face. It certainly won't be anything that provides any sort of incentive for me to visit the park. | |

It's the same ride experience, it's just the exterior that's changed. When Paradise Pier is fully completed and TLM and the rest are completed, that's when the crowds will start coming.

Construction to begin mid-December 2008. Burger Invasion refurbishment and removal of McDonald's menu/theming.Project Status: In progress. Closed September 2. And a new entry... ![]() | Re: Disney's California Adventure Project Tracker II Thanks for the great updates MG! For those of us who don't get to watch the progress, your updates keep our minds dreaming of the future. ![]() I plan to take my daughter to the parks for her 16th birthday as a big surprise, and the way things are going, she will have such a blast from all the new things being built/refurbed. Since her sweet 16 is in 2015, I think it will be perfect timing for her to see "a whole new world" !! *giggle* |
