Re: New Rocket Jets Updates... ?

Was SM spire moved to the right a little bit? It had a different fastpass sign as well? Why did I never realise this?

Yes ... the sign was removed. When it came back ... it was placed into a new foundation .. a little more to the right - Just like you said.

    Interesting!
That's one of those sites that rips their info right from Wikipedia. The first three images on that page were taken by yours truly, and some information in there too.

And I wrote that Rocket Rods article.

And of course, I'm only credited for it on Wikipedia.

If they do this, it would be another 3-4 years from now.

The only thing I was hearing that would happen sometime this fall or winter was that the rockwork infront of TL would be minimized or removed. i also heard talk of some of the planters around the hub and main street to be also minimized (NOT removed) for more viewing space, especially for Remember Dreams Come True.

    just a rumor though.

I personally like the silver rockwork on Hong Kong's space mountain and think that possibly minimizing it (in terms of size) and a new silver based color scheme would fit with TL's new overal feel and look. or just take it out, better yet.

The rocks in front of Tomorrowland are supposed to be apart of a volcano. The original concept for Discovery Mountain was that it was going to be much larger and the back storyw ould be that it was powered by a volcano, Nemo's Volcano base. The idea was kept for the scaled down Discovery Mountain (Space Mountain: From the Earth to the Moon) as the means that the Columbiad is propelled. In Anaheim I think they serve more as a means to frame the Astro Orbitor, which I feel they do a great job of doing.

The rocks in Paris by Space Mountain.

Holy ! That looks AMAZING!! Hopefully it will look like that in the future. Look how open, clean and wide it is. It's not cluttered with that Astro Orbiter, all those bronze spires and such. I can't get over how good and clean cut that looks.

As far as the rocks, they look realistic in Paris, but pointless in Disneyland around the Astro Orbiter and at the base of Hong Kong Disneyland's Space Mountain.

This may be a little unrelated, but I swear to god that back when I was like 12 or 13, Space Mountain was silver. If this was true, I cannot even begin to imagine why it was painted this way.

RE: The Rocks... I think those were designed/added to provide some sort of visual transition/barrier between Main Street and the Astro-Orbitor. Obviously, such a thing would look out of place in the back yard of the Plaza Inn...

So, when they take the rocks away, it might be a bit shocking visually -- yet another reason to move the Rocket Jets back where they belong in the heart of Tomorrowland.

Does anyone know the physical make up of the rocks? As much as I think they are really ugly, could seats be incorporated into the rocks. During the fireworks, many people try to climb these rocks to get a better view. They have almost the right slope where they could be made into bleacher seating for the fireworks. If done correctly, they might be able to hold a lot people.

Of course, in the long run having them removed is the best thing.

From a recent picture where I saw the rocks in construction .. they used steel girders lining up in the direction of the formation. Then, obviously, they coated those steel beams.
