Alternate Names for Attractions

I know it's been mentioned here before that some folks find it annoying when guests call attractions by the wrong names, but there are a few that I find pretty amusing. For example, it always cracks me up when people refer to the hang-glider attraction as "Screamin' Over California."

The rest are courtesy of my four-year-old granddaughter:

1) While getting ready for her first trip to DL, we told her about the Casey Jr. train. She thought we were saying "Quesadilla Train," and so now, of course, that's what we all call it.

2) The *Mark Twain* (on which she got to ride in the wheelhouse!) is The Big White Boat.

3) Gadget's Go Coaster is Mickey's Coaster (a much better name anyway, IMHO.

4) The Matterhorn is The Big Mountain Coaster.

So, what alternate names for attractions have your friends/family come up with?

That's funny! When my brother was a kid, he used to call Pirates of the Caribbean "Pirate Carrots" - we're not sure why, but he did...so we always make reference to that.......

While I personally know it's the Storybook Land Canal Boats, I sometimes say "Let's go get on Monstro".....

My son - who is 2 years old, I might add - occasionally calls the Astro Orbiter "Dumbo"...and then corrects himself and calls them "Wockets". I too, still refer to them as the Rocket Jets......

My mom has called (and still does, sometimes) Soarin', "California Soarin'".

...which isn't too bad.

Oh, one that grates on my nerves is when people call Downtown Disney "Disney Walk"......even after you have referred to it as Downtown Disney.......they still call it Disney Walk.............first timers, that's understandable......but people who have been there repeatedly, that I know of, call it that..........and I can't fathom why....

I've posted this before, but my wife still refers to the boat ride in Adventureland as The Jungle Book, and she's been going for over 35 years.

Eventually, these threads always pick up some protesters who hate it when people are bothered by use of incorrect names, as well as protesters against the protesters. So I apologize in advance to anyone on either side who I may offend with my well-balanced opinion.

Basically, I get annoyed when a perfectly good name is ignored in favor of a stupid one. Things like:

* The Haunted House
* Disney (instead of Disneyland)
* various mountain confusions
* the Pirates ride (even Tony Baxter is guilty! )
* California Adventures/California Adventureland/Californialand

So yeah, those sorts of things bother me, though it's very rare that I actually say something. However, I'm not bothered in the slightest if you say, for instance:

* Indiana Jones or Indy, instead of Indiana Jones Adventure: The Temple of the Forbidden Eye
* Thunder Mountain or Big Thunder, instead of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
* The Matterhorn, instead of Matterhorn Bobsleds
* Pinocchio, instead of Pinocchio's Daring Journey

My lil cousin calls Pirates, "Pirates of the Bean" pretty cute if you ask me!

And to me and my friends...Grizzly River Run will forever in our hearts be known as simply, BEAR due to an idiotic hand gesture depicting the bear

We always used to refer to the Fantasyland / Tomorrowland Skyway as "the buckets" - I don't know why - much as we always refered to the Mad Tea Party as "the teacups"...

I used to use them all the time, though now I'm working on stories of trivia I've been trying to get away from saying alternative. Though still something I'm working on.

3) Gadget's Go Coaster is Mickey's Coaster (a much better name anyway, IMHO.

I'd hate to get off track, but why? It's themed to Gadget, and right next to the Chip 'n Dale Treehouse.

I dunno. Not really, though I never call any of the rides by their full, overly long names sometimes. I'm not saying they names are bad, but picture this conversation:

"Lets go on Indiana Jones: Temple of the Forbidden eye!"
"I love Indiana Jones: Temple of the Forbidden Eye!"
Me too!

Eww. But, California Advetnures drives me nuts, as well and any other weird names, like Big foot rapids, for Grizzly Rapids, because the first one is at Knotts. o-O

Actually, it'd be even worse than that - its official name is Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

And I call Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters just buzz.

When my daughter was 2, she called the Haunted Mansion "The Very Pretty House". She would only go on if you called it by that. We have stuck with that name for the past sixteen years and we still go on "the Very Pretty House" today.
