Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

So, basically, Pixie Hollow is another chance to sell merchandise and remove something that didn't earn money. I still look forward to seeing it, don't get me wrong, but, I enjoyed King Triton!

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

What replaced the old thing that didn't make money was another thing that doesn't cost money either, but they tempt you at the exit with merchandise that you might choose to purchase but are not required to. The fact that there is an hour wait for this simple meet'n'greet(and it's gotten up to 2 hours both here and in Florida) shows that this is something that kids want and are very happy is there now and that much is all that really matters

That's what I mean. The exit to merchandise. I don't begrudge happiness to children...I had two as well, but, I just get tired of good old stuff being removed for that reason.

But The Little Mermaid was a tastefully done grotto that blended in with the environment in a subtle manner - - a Fantasyland tease - - not a garish out-of-scale giant fairyland.

Big difference.
It actually does not stick out in mainstreet like you think. The fountain and landscaping do a well job in blending everything.

Besides its not to far from a fairytale castle and a few yeards away from the rockwork and large leaves of Alice in Wonderland

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Tech, well said. Speaking for myself, I would always rather design from scratch and try to fill a pre-existing space with it's confinements. I admire WDI for even attempting the sort of thing they are about. I wish them all the best luck in the world. If Pixie Hollow is ANY sort of indication of what they are capable of on short time, limited land and probably limited resources, then I have fairly high hopes for what DCA will be. I have been favorably impressed with what people have said of Pixie Hollow so far. It seems to have far exceeded my expectations and actually improved upon an area of the park that, despite my sentimental attachment to it, desperately needed work. Hopefully this will keep this little corner alive for years to come.

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

this is very impressive and i'm glad to hear that it's well contained in order to keep the area immersive both when you're outside and when you're in.
it's a shame that you're only able to meet 2 of Tink's 4 friends, though it's really not surprising.

I don't mind a freshly done manicure (natural looking: sheer pink, nude color, french, etc) as long it's on nails that aren't clearly made of plastic...

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

French manicures are thought to have originated as early as the 18th century (1700s) in Paris. Depending on when stories like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty are set... these types of nails are perfectly appropriate for the characters. Granted, they didn't become widely popular among women until the 1920s, but I'm sure among the more "well off" citizens they were more common.

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Folks here have made reference to what Pixie Hollow looks like in WDW. Does anyone have a link to pictures of the WDW version? Why is the Disneyland version better than WDW's version of Pixie Hollow?

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

It's not really a pixie hollow at WDW it's like a little typical meet'n'greet where it's got a backdrop and that's about it. (more than a flat backdrop, there are props, but it's not as much of an area and it's inside the tent in toontown fair)

The most common addition is actually a replacement. Replacements are uphill battles from the beginning. You have to impress the public and hopefully break their sentimental attachment to what was there before. You have to confine your design to the limitations of what is already there, or risk replacing a great deal more then you planned on.
And as someone mentioned, some of the infastructure already was in place becase of King Triton's Garden. So, in this respect, DL had an advantage compared to What WDW started with.

Just a minute, don't insult the guests, by calling them fickle. If you start insulting your guests, they are not likely to stay around. And in this case, it's really is more that Disney is fickle, because, whatever direction the wind blows, Disney is fickle to either placing Princesses ALL over the place, next thing, Pirates were EVERYWHERE, and NOW it's Pixies. And when Tink dies down next year, it's likely that the pixie meet and greet will be reduced to just Tink and one other fairy, or maybe just Tink- or forget the meet and greet, like they did with Tarzan and Jane.

As far as the change out to Pixie Hollow, you could also compare it to the attic in the Haunted Mansion getting it's Christmas makeover.

A park that previously was a parking lot, a clean slate, and should have been done a lot better then it was. Now instead of a clean slate they have to conform to the designs of what is there.
And THAT is exactly why I and so many others had major issues with DCA from opening day, and really, always will. Because the layout of DCA was done so sloppy - and now, even with at billion dollar makeover, unfortunately it's too late for DCA to get it right, with the park layout, the berm, the central hub. Yeah, they are stuggling to Fix the problems designed with the park, but it will always be worse that if it had been planned for with park opening. And all these extra expenses will now be incurred, because Disney Eisney/Pressler Didn't do it right. But enough of DCA, Back to Pixie Hollow/Triton Garden which will soon be home to Ariel ...

It was done extremely well, some would argue better then Ariel's Grotto was, and that is the point of a replacement. To be better then what it replaced. DCA was a clean slate. They had an empty parking lot and dreams, that was it. The result has not been as popular as Disney intended, and Disney is now investing a substantial amount in budget and manpower to bring it up to a higher standard. This was a clean slate, and already they are trying to replace it. Please think about that when you judge Pixie Hollow, and when you judge DCA.
Because of the lack of infastructure in DCA (no garden, very few plants, no water fountains in this area of DCA, for a next King Triton Garden, that little project will cost a heck of a lot more to do than the makeover they did for pixie hollow. And I don't think Disney animation will be around with $$'s to get the infactructure set up for the new King Triton Garden, that Pixie Hollow stole from the original Triton Garden.

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

DL having the "infrastructure" over WDW isn't really an issue to me. Yes we had a nice little garden with pathways set up but setting up a little area of their own in Fantasyland with all that empty space they have would not have cost that much in comparison given that they're banking on the Fairies franchise to continue bringing in a lot of money in the parks.

Yeah, I'm amazed at all the wasted space in the Magic Kingdom at WDW, compared to DL.

What I want to know is, what if the Tinker Bell movies are a flop? The movie comes out this coming week, but you know, what if it isn't that great? What happens to Pixie Hollow then? (Chicksie Hollow as I like to call it)

Also, where is Pixie Hollow supposed to be located? I'm assuming Neverland since Tink is involved, or is it another land?
