Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Blue fairy is kinda smokin'.

I saw a bunch of old geezers trying to get a look through the blades of grass today without waiting in line. I'm glad I was finally able to make that back to the future quote "he's a peepin' tom!" in that marty mcfly voice. You have no idea how long I've wanted to use that.

Off-topic, but I've seen that very tree that George McFly used for voyeuristic purposes!

Also, where is Pixie Hollow supposed to be located? I'm assuming Neverland since Tink is involved, or is it another land?
From what I'm getting it takes place in Neverland but it's before she meets Peter Pan. From what I read today in a book at work. Trying to learn about Rosetta,Slivermist and the other. I already knew about Fawn so didn't need any info on her.

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Just a thought - I realize this year they are just trying to introduce the new fairies, BUT NEXT YEAR - think they might decorate this area for Halloween and give the fairies Halloween costumes. The obvious temporary name for this area could be

"PIXIE HOLLOW-EEN"

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Doesn't really matter if the movie does well. Kids love the character and have already been clamoring for Tink merchandise and fairy outfits. It sells enough to keep regardless of the movie's performance, so it's a pretty safe investment for them.

They are already predicting for the movie to do well and pretty soon add more fairies to Pixie Hollow.

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

I'm not really one for meet and greets, however I really wanted to get a chance to see the new area and theming. However, the queue isn't very wheelchair friendly (nor is the Park in general, but that's a rant for another day) -- and my wife isn't doing well enough to stand for that long.

So, instead of the old layout where you could at least enjoy the theming and see Ariel from afar, here you HAVE to stand in the line if you want to see any part of it. Kinda stinks for the adult types who don't want to be the "peeping toms" and peering through blades of grass.

I suppose there's great theming, hidden somewhere around there.

(Apparently, there's supposed to be a separate wheelchair entrance, but none of the CMs working around the area seemed the least bit interested in talking with Guests, so after a few tries trying to locate the proper route based off of the single sign for it... we gave up.)

Me too, but it's nothing compared to all the wasted space in Disneyland's old parking lot--they're only making good use of the southeast corner now.

But seriously, if the intention was to make the Magic Kingdom a scaled-up version of Disneyland--not in every sense but aesthetically--then it's naturally going to have more space left open. In my opinion, Disneyland strikes just about the perfect balance between packing in the attractions while not looking cluttered. On the other hand, some have told me that after having visited the Magic Kingdom, Disneyland now looks cluttered to them, so to each their own. If one really wants to see what a cluttered park looks like, then they should visit the modern Knott's Berry Farm, where for instance there are rollercoaster struts anchored in the old graveyard now. Just imagine something like that happening at Disneyland...the horror!

Re: Pixie Hollow is OPEN!!!

Even if the movies flop.. Peter Pan was wildly successful and there has been clamor for MANY years for a Tink character meet and greet. I think this will stay popular no matter what the movie does.

I love the idea of letting the holidays wander in a little bit. There are plenty of Official Disney things with Tink in red with white fur for Christmas, or purple with a little black hat for Halloween.

Which again goes back to the fundamentals of replacement design and using what you have.

Quote:
Just a minute, don't insult the guests, by calling them fickle. If you start insulting your guests, they are not likely to stay around. And in this case, it's really is more that Disney is fickle, because, whatever direction the wind blows, Disney is fickle to either placing Princesses ALL over the place, next thing, Pirates were EVERYWHERE, and NOW it's Pixies. And when Tink dies down next year, it's likely that the pixie meet and greet will be reduced to just Tink and one other fairy, or maybe just Tink- or forget the meet and greet, like they did with Tarzan and Jane.
Fickle was not used as an insult it was used as a description to describe the frustration of replacement designs. No design will ever please everyone, the hope is to please as many as possible. The reality is that when a design replaces a former attraction then WDI has to try and break the sentimental attachment to the previous attraction and foster a new relationship with the new attraction. This is easier said then done. Even some of the best designs still get criticism as is proven by the current criticisms of Pixie Hollow.

What exactly did Triton's Garden do, or have, that Pixie Hollow did not? Ariel's Grotto was the only portion of the garden that was frequently used. The majority of the garden was empty a great deal of the time. Ariel's Grotto was also out in the open, advertising a giant clam shell sandwiched in between the Matterhorn and Tomorrowland... with no attempt to conceal it to preserve the theme of those respective lands. Pixie Hollow is conceled, fully utilized, immersive, and they still kept the walk through to Tomorrowland if you only want to see the pond and the fountain! So please tell me, why the criticism? What was so great about Triton's Garden?

The other tangent this could go to is the sales tangent. Pirates, Princesses, now Pixies... this is in part driven by sales. When was the last time you saw a "Home on the Range" meet and greet? When was the last time you saw a "Atlantis" overlay or gift shop? The argument could be that Disney feeds the public a small dose of specific products, and when the public asks for more then more is supplied. I HATE the overlay of Pirates on TSI... but it brought the crowds back to TSI. The rocks that used to be barren, and the caves that used to be silent, are now once again filled with the screams and laughter of playing children. To me, knowing that a new generation is enjoying my old playground is worth the annoyance of it being Pirates and not Tom and Huck.

Quote:
As far as the change out to Pixie Hollow, you could also compare it to the attic in the Haunted Mansion getting it's Christmas makeover.
Not exactly. I would draw the comparison to Monster's Inc replacing SuperStar Limo. WDI designed it to utilize the same infastructure but replaced the majority of the contents. The Attic still has HM's stuff in it... the majority of Pixie Hollow is Pixie Hollow...

This brings about another point. Many people bash Monster's. Again the argument of a replacement design comes into play. What annoys me is that people will bash it, but when asked if they want Limo back their expression is comical. It seems that some will never be happy, even when a replacement is far greater then what it replaced!

Quote:
And THAT is exactly why I and so many others had major issues with DCA from opening day, and really, always will. Because the layout of DCA was done so sloppy - and now, even with at billion dollar makeover, unfortunately it's too late for DCA to get it right, with the park layout, the berm, the central hub. Yeah, they are struggling to Fix the problems designed with the park, but it will always be worse that if it had been planned for with park opening. And all these extra expenses will now be incurred, because Disney Eisney/Pressler Didn't do it right.
Of course this will prompt the question; Will you accept the replacement designs, and replacement overlays, even if they are superior to what they replaced? The public complains about what is there (do not misunderstand I think they have every right to in some respects) but will the public accept the changes or will they suddenly long for what was replaced? That is the fickleness I described. That is the challenge WDI faces when they are not designing from the ground up.

Quote:
But enough of DCA, Back to Pixie Hollow/Triton Garden which will soon be home to Ariel ...
I really need to get my hands on that Magic 8 Ball that keeps telling you the future!

Quote:
Because of the lack of infrastructure in DCA (no garden, very few plants, no water fountains in this area of DCA, for a next King Triton Garden, that little project will cost a heck of a lot more to do than the makeover they did for pixie hollow. And I don't think Disney animation will be around with $$'s to get the infrastructure set up for the new King Triton Garden, that Pixie Hollow stole from the original Triton Garden.
I would not be shocked if the budget for the new Meet n Greet were tacked on to the budget for TLM. Likewise I am fairly confident that WDI will be designing both to match, so the landscape and materials for TLM can then be recycled for Meet n Greet as well. This is a major overhaul, the money's supposedly there... so now we will see how well WDI can meet the challenge of replacing and overlaying rather then designing.

Two thoughts. There is alternate wheelchair entrance prior to entering the switchbacks of the main line (you go on a straight path, then turn right on another path and end up at the front of the line). Someone utilized this on the soft opening. I am not sure what the policy is, but I know it is there.

Secondly, the old walkway from Tomorrowland to the Parade Route is still there. You can take this path and enjoy the fountain, pond, and some of the themeing without being in line. The majority of the details are small, so likely you would need to be in line to see them. Hopefully when the Hollow is closed you can simply walk through and take pictures.

Tink is a major character with a mass following. The movie could be a complete flop and it wouldn't matter. You also have the added appeal of fairies. Many little girls dream of being a fairy, and to be able to meet a fairy is a real treat... even for some women (my wife included) this is basically a childhood dream come true! The kids didn't even know the other fairies names but that didn't matter... what mattered was that they got to meet fairies (and believe me we are still hearing about it!).

I really miss meeting Ariel in mermaid form because that was something Disney. That was the break from reality, meeting a mermaid sitting on a giant clam shell. Disney may have temporarily taken away that experience, but they replaced it with an equally magical experience of meeting fairies. I am hopeful that the new Ariel meet n greet will be in mermaid form, and near her attraction which would be the best of both worlds.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For any parent who doesn't want to pay $25 for a pair of Tink's wings, or whatever the cost is for the dresses I HIGHLY recommend getting a pair at the 99cent store before Halloween... or purchasing a pair from any Halloween display. Remember Halloween is seasonal, so if you want to avoid the high cost of the little one being a fairy... now's the time!
