The Further Adventures of WG's new camera on Vet's Day

Went back to Disneyland on Tuesday Nov. 11th, Veteran's Day, armed with a brand new back up battery (thanks to DH for the birthday present .)

I had four goals in mind for this afternoon trip. The first was to take some half way decent photos. Secondly, I needed to renew my Annual Pass. Third, I wanted to see the Veteran's Day ceremony at the flag pole and lastly to take pictures of the last day of Parade of Dreams. I really wanted to see the second and totally final parade but I needed to be at hand bell practice at 7 PM so I had to settle for the 4:45 PM time. Better that then none at all!

First of all Main Street was very crowded with vehicles. At one point all three were traveling up toward the castle at the same time with the two horse drawn cars passing each other for a total of four on the street at the same time. Here is a photo of two of them starting out:

    The wreaths are up

and the castle is looking all wintery

Ah, the icicles that some people love to hate

The day would not be complete for me without a visit to see the Billies

"You won't see this on a brochure ... come to Disneyland!"

    The poinsettias are planted

    Practicing for the ceremony

Ran into the ever lovely PurpleDove

Because I was standing in line to renew my pass I was not able to get a decent spot to take good photos. But Margo told me DarkBeer was there and I do believe if you look in the middle of this pictures you will see him doing his job

The people who are standing around the flag pole are current and former (I think) cast members who are veterans or are currently serving. Then as the songs of each branch of the military were played audience members from those branches were asked to step forward

There was quite a large turnout

After the ceremony was completed everyone from the color guard, flag barriers, Dapper Dans, Band and cast members marched back stage.

Next up, evening shots and the Parade of Dreams

Evening and the time for Parade of Dreams was fast approaching and so I planted myself where the Christmas tree is now (they put it up overnight between the 11th and 12th apparently). I felt this would be a better spot to get pictures but again the floats really moved by fast. Later, during the show stop I got up and moved around to get some photos on the other side.

Time for the Bolt preparade. No matter how hard I tried I could not get a picture of Rhino shooting up. This was my best shot of the float.

Ah, here comes Parade of Dreams now

One of the reasons for getting a better camera was to be able to get clear, close up shots

At this point the parade moved so fast I had trouble getting good pictures so I moved over to the other side across from the Opera House

And now it's time to say good bye ...

    Goodnight Moon,

    Good Bye Parade (for now)

I took these last two shots as I was leaving shortly after 6 PM

That's it for this time. I think I am getting the hang of this camera and will be ready to take some fabulous photos at WDW come Spring

Those are really great pictures. That new camera is a good thing and your layouts of the various pictures are really good. I don't know when I will get down but I am sure going to try before blockout dates on weekends. The Park looks great.

    Nice pics!

OMG, I've only JUST noticed that they changed Tink's POD costume to match the new meet-and-greet costumes. That makes me sad; other characters have different versions of their costumes, why can't Tink? The light green costume was closer to what she wears in Peter Pan.

Yes, my daughter is the one who noticed this change. Here is a picture of Tink in the parade in May with the lighter green costume

Thanks for those amazing shots, WG! I think it's great that the Dans have matching red, white and blue outfits for Veterans day, and also, I'm assuming, for the fourth of July. Your photos keep getting better and better! And congratulations on your new battery!
