I've been in a few tight spots... that is definately not a good place to be. Tink already stated that we know individuals who were evac'd. We wish all of those who are displaced the absolute best. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Wow, insane pics tech. I hope everyone affected by this is ok safety wise. I know there have been a lot of homes lost, and that sucks.

NASA captured this photo of the fires from their AQUA satellite.

I was dangerously close to the last major fire (in Chatsworth) so I understand how nervewrecking it can be. I mean, I wasn't able to get home to my cat and dog, fires were literally licking my home. Hopefully everything will turn out OK for you!

Some of the fires last year effected friends of mine, like the fire in Foothill Ranch. That fire was right behind my friend's house. She was called out of class because her family was being evacuated. Thankfully their house was fine, but it was still a scary though. Quite a few people I know were evacuated because of that fire, and everyone was nervous because no one knew if they were going to have a house to go home to.

And to think that we choose to live here, and not only that, we pay more for seemingly everything (housing and gasoline, certainly) than most anywhere else in the country for the privilege...

I know other parts of the country have their disasters too but at least people have fair warning a lot of times. With the "Tea" fire (Montecito), and these others, the fire was on top of people before they knew what hit them.

Yeah, it's kind of sad to think - well, it must be October/November, another fire! I swear, my home has come too close to fires too many times, almost on a yearly basis!

Yeah California's biggest threats are earthquakes and fire, both of which are unpredictable. Really makes one wonder why people live here. Though of course, there's no where you can go to get away from disaster.

You forgot landslides... Not to be crass but almost every year Malibu burns, then the next rains Malibu experiences horrific mudslides and flooding... it's a never ending cycle yet people pay millions to live there... I never understood that. On the flip side you have individual who seek out the solitude of the foothills and mountains. They build on the very edge of the wilderness. Then they complain when mountain lions, bobcats, and coyotes attack their pets... I never understood that one either.
