Subtle Effects of Disneyland

Another fun thread, contribute your own if I forget any..the small details in rides, shops, exteriors that are very deliberately done...but easy to pass by or not see, or are generally not mentioned/overlooked.

Some of my favorites....

  • The Cheshire Cat reflection mirror inside the hat shop next to Alice in Wonderland.
  • The upstairs traveling light on the second floor of Haunted Mansion.
  • The rat eyes at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean, inside the archways as you go up the lift hill.
  • The voodoo lady balcony conversations, opposite the bathrooms in New Orleans Square.
  • The Wicked Queen in the window above Snow White's Scary Adventures
  • The talking manhole in Toontown
  • The projected snowflakes on the initial lift into the Matterhorn, on either side
  • The representation of the goddess in shadow form during the Small World India section (not sure if it supposed to be Kali, or whom....so don't want to show my ignorance by guessing wrongly)
  • The giant butterflies and snakes in the beginning of Jungle Cruise
  • The radio broadcast playing in the courtyard of Indiana Jones, along with the bat cave chirping and noises
These are just some of mine...any you enjoy from my list, or more I didn't mention? Do feel free to add your own!

I love things like the Max Buff and Melvin in the pooh ride, which make it a mandatory ride for me. I cant think of anymore. Dx

the flowers and trees!
the hidden mickeys! (my son pointed out to me the mickey in big ben that you can see while on the Peter Pan ride last week--cool!)
the sound effects in the toontown drinking fountains
... there are so many, I'm still discovering new ones. there's a traveling light at the haunted mansion? one that you see from the exterior? I'll have to look for that!

I've always thought the noises coming from the dentist's office on the Main street cul-de-sac hilarious, as are the barroom noises on BTM.

The telegraph at New Orleans Station echoing Walt Disney's dedication of Disneyland
The WD and RD in the wrought iron of the balcony in New Orleans Square
The moving clouds of Pirates
The upstairs window dedications along Main Street

Re: Subtle Effects of Disneyland

Sometimes the little things really do make an enormous impact. I would not be exaggerating if I said that just seeing that projected Matterhorn snowfall can improve my overall perception of a day in the park.

Re: Subtle Effects of Disneyland

I recently listed a bunch in a post in another thread:

In addition to those, I've always been amused by the scorch marks--that's how I view them--on the cloth covering the eyes of the Mara frieze at the entrance of the Chamber of Destiny in Indy. And for some reason, I'm also amused by the fact that the "driver" of the jeep in the preshow is wearing a turban--sure, one of the "locals" actually drives each jeep.

Re: Subtle Effects of Disneyland

I love the subtle transitions from one land to another as parts of one buildings architecture begin to look like the next land more and more as you walk past it. Or how the ground changes as well.

Musical cross-fades between lands/ride areas.

The dynamite plunger and power company door sound effects in Toon Town.

The forced perspective of Main St and the Matterhorn.

The ship sails and masts over the roofline of NOS.

Re: Subtle Effects of Disneyland

I'm at the challenge trail right now with DIP Jr letting him blow off steam.

We ate lunch on the second level of Golden Horeshoe having lunch.

He looked out at the railing surrounding the saloon and going toward the stage. He said, "Look Daddy. It's a giant horeshoe."

In my 40 years I have never noticed that.

Re: Subtle Effects of Disneyland

Some I forgot...the Mineral Hall window on the outside of the Rancho Del Zocalo building, facing the seating area, and the lone jumping fish in the pond along Big Thunder Trail.
