    Re: Backstage stories. What's yours???

When I was younger and my parents took me and my brother to Disneyland, I was always fascinated with what the backstage areas looked like. Now, i realize its not that fascinating anymore. but i do have a cool story. it was park closing and i was working in new orleans square. i went with one of the guys i was working with to take out the trash, and after we did that we decided to explore new orleans square. we went into the back door of club 33 and looked around for awhile and realized there is nothing so special about that. then we decided to climb these stairs that are on the backside of pirates and indy buildings. we climbed the stairs all the way up to the roof. we couldnt believe that we were on the new orleans square rooftop. we were on the roof where if you look really closly has the sailboat sails. that was an amazing site to see. you could see the whole park, and you could see DCA and also the hotels. exploring the backstage areas are so much fun, except at nite they are creepy cuz there is very little lighting. i just wish disneyland had built an underground tunnel that could take us cm's under main street to the westside of the park. i hear they have that in florida at wdw. i so wish that i could go backstage there and see what thats like.

My wife works for the largest resort casino here in Reno. I've been "backstage" and it's just like any other business. No flashing lights. None of the "casino" sounds. Offices and cubicles abound. Housekeeping carts. Service trays. People going about their daily routines. The "magic' happens on the main floor.
Hmm ... so it has to be either the Hilton/the Nugget/or Silver Legacy ... right??

Disneychica04, you stood on top of the Blue Bayou's sky! You realize that, don't you? Underneath your feet was the night sky of the Blue Bayou...how weird. What a bizarre thought. I want to do that someday.

I've got to go to school in So Cal so I can become a CM. That'll probably wean me from DL for good, but it'll be worth it while it lasts. Backstage freedom, here I come!

I see your point about the casino comparison, JangoFett, but I find it impossible to reconcile the disparate worlds of adult gambling and family theme park entertainment. Suffice it to say I don't care for casinos.

Well the Nugget is in Sparks so that certainly narrows it down.

What's the current single day price of to get in DL? $56.00 right? When was the last time a casino FORCED you to pay them to walk into the building? Also, you do have a chance to leave with more in your pocket than when you entered. When was the last time you walked out of DL with more money in your pocket? Our last trip DLR cost nearly $4000.00 after lodging, food, gas, trinkets to take home. Of all the times I've been into casinos I've never spent any where close to that much, and I live in Reno. Let's not forget that the Disney Co. has toyed with the idea of casino operations for years.

Ok, I'm going to guess the Silver Legacy is bigger but I honestly have no idea. The Hilton is damn big too.

In the past, they couldn't pursue casino operations (even on the Cruise Line) because of the Angels and the Ducks. Now that the teams aren't an issue, I wonder what will happen.

I will leave most of the details out but when I was a CP I saw Cinderalla and Sleeping Beauty making out backstage. I am not lying this was the most tramatic thing I saw while I worked there.

I'm sure that would be the ULTIMATE fantasy for some.

    Re: Backstage stories. What's yours???

A couple of years ago, me and my wife got stuck at the Pirates ride. For some reason, all the boats stop moving and were stuck there for at least an hour..like 20 mins afterwards, we heard the cm on the loudspeaker and said to remain calm and that they were going to do an emergency evacuation. We were stuck near the bridge around there..We kept waiting until they shut off the music and heard nothing but clicking and moving parts..The lights came on and other cm's came out with their wetsuits, pushing the boats. Once we got off, we were lead and walking on the bridge..This was so cool..people and tourist were taking pictures left and right...the cm's didn't care and was shooked to see this..anyways, we walk out the exit doors and the cm's were all paranoid about people slipping and falling..We saw backstage of Indy..When I asked what was in the tall building, they told me that it was "classified"..I was like whatever..What made it so sweet is that we went to City Hall and complained along with other people that go stuck..They gave us comps for a full day and we couldn't be more happier...Wish I had pictures..Anyways, that's my story...

    Re: Backstage stories. What's yours???

Several years ago my brother (currently a DCA CM, then a DL CM at the Mad Hatter) took me backstage on a break, through the door in the back walkway from Fantasyland to Frontierland. As we were walking to his break area, we passed through this gigantic, 8 foot tall pipe. Now, I had seen this in pictures and in documentaries for years, but here I was, actually inside the big pipe!!! It was nothing, there was nothing to see, but just being there was an incredibly big thing for me!

And I didn't realize that the Jungle Cruise river runs RIGHT behind Main Street, because there were a couple unused Jungle Cruise boats floating there. But besides that, all there really was were employee lockers, lunch tables, and some soda machines.
Same thing happend to me. I wish I hadn't gone that way.
