Red Face Disneyland in One Day???

I know it's not completely impossible, but how do you go about doing Disneyland/California Adventure in a single day? It looks like that's about the only way I'll get to go, and I have to wait until the middle/end of January. What rides are must-do's? How exactly do you cram everything into one day? Obviously, we plan to skip the little rides that we are much too big for now... I think what I'm most curious about is how to best navigate the park in order to accommodate everything.

Get there bright and early and have plenty of snacks packed up?

Honestly though, I personally wouldn't find going on ride-after-ride to be very fin at all. You kind of need a breather every now and then.

    Re: Disneyland in One Day???

Just this summer I almost did everything at Disneyland in one day. I heard that it's possible to go on all the rides at either park in one day.
I just needed to go on POTC (It was down two times), Tarzan Treehouse, Innoventions, Astro Orbitors, Columbia Ship and Disneyland Monorail. I think I would have done everything, but I decided to hang around with the micechat group for a while. Maybe next month I'll try to do everything in one day on Friday or something. I got to the parking structure at 7:30 and was already inside the park at 8:00 a.m. I went home at around 12:15 ish. No I didn't do anything in Disney's California Adventure. The rides you should go on are the onest that have Fastpasses and single rider options.

Disneyland: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, POTC, Indy, Star Tours, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Peter Pan's Flight, Alice in Wonderland, Fantasmic! and Matterhorn.
Disney's California Adventure: Screamin' California, Soarin' Over California, Tower of Terror, Aladdin: The Musical, Toy Story Midway Mania, Grizzly River Run and Pixar Play Parade.

The biggest keys are being at DL at opening, utilizing fast passes, going to DCA by noon and getting it all done -- or do that during high parade times if there are any running - and then back to DL to finish. DO NOT leave Disneyland for DCA without having picked up another fastpass for later in the evening. Fastpasses that tend to run out: Space Mountain (get this first) and then possibly Indy. If you want to do Grizzly & Splash, use a poncho!!! (wet clothes slow you down).

Good luck! We did most of DL and DCA in 11 hours during Gumball in January. If we'd had the other 3 or 4 hours the parks were open, we definitely could have done it all. Eating would have been nice though...

    Re: Disneyland in One Day???

Basically, you have to be willing to put in the entire 16 hour day or whatever it is. Something I've noticed that people haven't mentioned, but I feel are musts are The Remember Dreams Come true Fireworks, and Fantasmic!. Also, it is very like if you put the whole day in, that you will be able to hit alot of the smaller rides and attractions as well. In both parks. DCA is easier casue there aren't as many rides to hit, but there are longer lines for the good ones, and no special handicap access to bypass them with...

I only ever have done Disneyland and California Adventure in one day. It's quite easy really. My sister and I hit all the good rides (most more than once) in about 13 hours on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend this year.

Small World and Midway Mania weren't open at the time, and we didn't try to hit Fantasyland, but if you go during January it won't be nearly as crowded. You shouldn't have any trouble.

    Re: Disneyland in One Day???

I can't offer any advice on how to do everything, but almost all of my Disneyland trips have been single-day visits, so I'm pretty used to prioritizing for that comparatively short period of time.

FastPasses are definitely key. Get them early, get them every chance you get, and get them for attractions that you and everyone else desperately want to ride.

The main rides I usually try to hit on single-day trips are Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, the Haunted Mansion, Pirates, and Thunder Mountain, with Splash Mountain and the Matterhorn and Star Tours being fairly frequent additions to the mix and perhaps even some Fantasyland dark rides. And the railroad. Other people will have completely different priorities, but those are the attractions I gravitate most towards.

The trick is to not become set in a plan that includes long walks across the park without doing something. If you're walking past an attraction that could be fun and has a reasonable line...do it! Whatever you're en route to will still be there when you're done. Unless it's a show, that is.

Do take breaks, though. It's just not worth it to keep going and going and going and burn yourself out before the day's up. My favorite ways to take a break include:

    * Ride the Disneyland Railroad.
    * Between February and the end of August, sneak in through the HM FastPass distribution gazebo exit and take a breather in there.
    * Big Thunder Trail, of course.
    * Sit down at a meal for a little longer than I otherwise would.
    * Ride Pirates or HM a few times in a row, especially if it's hot - short line, long ride, and lots of AC.

The most important thing in all of this, though, is to make sure you don't stress. No matter how well or poorly things go according to plan, just keep an even keel and commit to having a great time without disappointment.

IMO the only way you could really get "everything" in, especially if you are talking about both parks as you mentioned is start right at opening on an off season weekday. The short/no lines would help you get through the rides pretty quickly and give you time to schedule shows and such later.

    Re: Disneyland in One Day???

Thank you all for the kind and extremely helpful responses! I really appreciate the feedback!

Luckily, it will just be my sister and I, so we can make it through pretty fast (we are fast walkers as a result of always being late...). That is a good point, (Datameister, I think?) that if we're on the way to something, and see something we want to do, do it! haha...believe it or not, we would not have the common sense to just stop and do the ride! So thank you!

Thanks again, everyone! Now I'm super excited!
