Sounds fun. I'm so lazy though. I just volunteer at the local marathons lol.

I might have to consider this own. I walked 4 half marathons this year in under the time cutoff. This one might actually be fun!

Ah Dusty, but this gives you plenty of time to train.

I've figured out that just walking around the DLR on what we have as a 'normal' day still is a few miles.

13.1, yea, with some training, I could WALK that. lol

Re: Disneyland Half-Marathon for 2006 announced

Disneyland hosted a full marathon some 10 years ago - it never returned:

Best Adventures in Race Certification Blooper
Presented by the Amelia Earhart Society

This award goes to Doug Thurston, the race director of the (in his words) "first, last and only Disneyland Marathon in Anaheim, CA in March 1995 (not to be confused with the successful and ongoing event at Disney World in Orlando, FL)." Again, let’s let Doug tell the story in his own words:

"I can speak firsthand of thinking my career was over when all 1,600 marathon runners were directed off-course about a mile and a half into the race, missing about two miles of the course. Wrong turns is a story often told. What makes this story for the ages is that Ron Scardera, the course measurer, was on-site with his calibrated bicycle and was able to measure the lost distance and add it on to the end of the race and recertify the course while it was being run. The course was a complicated double out-and-back loop through the Disneyland theme park and surrounding streets. Although the splits made little sense to the runners, by the time they’d hit the finish line they’d finished a certified marathon. The course counted as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and Olympic Trials. You can imagine the scene as we were laying out cones and moving volunteers and barricades with the lead runners bearing down on us."

Along with this award, we present Doug with the Best Sense of Humor in the Aftermath of Disaster Award.

Man, if it was a walk, I'd be all over it. But running? ahahaha!!!
    Good morning, son
    In twenty years from now
Maybe we'll both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you 'bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
    It was pain
    Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things...

Hmmmm. This almost sounds like a good excuse to get in shape for the wedding. I've never wanted to "get in shape" just for a day (wedding). I think that's a poor excuse. But, to train for a marathon is a damn good excuse. Hmmmm.

Anyone wanna join me in training? I've got a mini-gym at my apartment complex.

I think I could do a quarter of the half-marathon. But it would take some training!

Re: Disneyland Half-Marathon for 2006 announced

hmmm I've never done a marathon before but I"m thinking I might give this a shot. 16 minute mile works out to about a 4 mile an hour pace which could be done at a fast walk. I think you could combine running and walking and get through it. at least it gives me a training goal and some motivation to stick with it.
It also says that people who drop below the min pace get transported to the finish line, so at least they won't leave you for dead by the river.
