More Details on the MAJOR Disneyland Resort Entertainment Cuts!

As first mentioned at MiceAge on December 15th... (Unlike another site that claimed their info on December 17th was first...

    http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/dat...news-more.html

Disneyland Resort Entertainment is getting MAJOR cuts...

The first was Princess Fantasy Faire, with basically everything except the Meet and Greet and the merchandise/food being cancelled (The Money Makers remain open).

    Based on Disneyland.com

    DCA is getting some cuts...

Aladdin is going on Hiatus as of Monday, January 5th. (UPDATE - Aladdin will still be offered 5 days a week in early 2009).

HSM:3 will go to a Friday through Sunday only schedule (might be offered on some Monday Holidays).

Pixar Play Parade will remain at 5 days a week (Wednesday through Sunday)

Drawn to the Magic is on Hiatus

Brother Bear will remain (Friday through Tuesday).

Playhouse Disney will remain at 7 days a week.

    As for Disneyland..

NO Parade as of January 5th for the foreseeable future (my educated guess, mid March for Spring Break - "Celebrate Today"

No Fantasmic! as of January 5th (UPDATE - Fantasmic! will be offered 7 days a week through at least March 27th as a substitute for no parade being offered).

Remember Fireworks not offered until MLK, Jr. weekend (a couple of weeks off, then just holiday weekends).

    WOW!!!

Heading into the off season after Christmas, I don't expect as much entertainment. However, I'm surprised that Aladdin is going on hiatus. That show is one of the main reasons to visit DCA!

We went to Aladdin about a week ago, it has been around for some time, but we thought, why not!

Hey Darkbeer, where have the Monday Updates been?

    No Fantasmic or Parade???

I don't think this Calvacade thing will be much of a replacement.

It's going seem VERY quiet after the first week of January. It will be very interesting indeed to see if the guests continue to roll in or if the combo of recession/lack of entertainment will keep the crowds fairly low until Spring break. Hmmm....

Re: More Details on the MAJOR Disneyland Resort Entertainment Cuts!

I haven't been able to find any sign of Fantasmic being performed after New years eve anywhere at Disneyland.com. In a different post a couple of micechatters assured me it is playing through the first weekend of January, and this thread seems to confirm it...but I am just curious if there is info on disney.com that I am missing. So, if it isn't too much trouble, could someone tell me how they know Fantasmic will be up through Jan 4th. The calender stops listing with the 3 showing for New years eve.

    thanks.

This is fantastic (dare I say 'Fantasmic!') news. Though I feel bad for the performers furloughed, I love the return to major entertainment offered only during holiday periods.

They should dump HSM3. Such a huge waste and the worst show at the DLR ever. Drop that and Drawn to Madness and bring back Aladdin.

Over at DL, Fantasy Faire needs to go and build the Little Mermaid ride there where it actually fits.

I consider myself fortunate to have visited when I did. I enjoyed the parades, Fantasmic, the fireworks, and the Aladdin Show.

Re: More Details on the MAJOR Disneyland Resort Entertainment Cuts!

All this news about cuts at Disneyland is depressing. My AP is unblocked on Jan 4 so I am going that day to enjoy the last Christmas parade for this year (and the last parade of any kind it sounds like for awhile) and the last fireworks for awhile. And gee, they just brought Aladdin back and now it's going on hiatus again?

My daughter got laid off two weeks ago and so went to apply at the resort. She was told they are not hiring until the end of January and there is a waiting list.

Re: More Details on the MAJOR Disneyland Resort Entertainment Cuts!

I know it's selfish of me, but I am glad. I'm so sick of the way Fantasmic, the fireworks, and the parades distort the DL experience, making it almost impossible to enjoy the park if you aren't interested in viewing them. The crowds, and crowd control measures like Adventureland and Frontierland becoming one-way and the hub becoming a roundabout, make it agonizing to get around the park in the evening. I don't think these shows used to be nightly/twice nightly. My favorite area, New Orleans Square, had its main walkway turned into a series of viewing platforms for Fantasmic, which changed the look of the area and made it almost impossible to get through on crowded days. Again, I know for those many guests who have never seen the shows, it will be a major loss, but for those who have seen them many times it will be a relief.

Didn't they just spend lots of money to revamp Fantasmic?

I agree, that those shows make it MUCH more crowded, and frankly a headache. I got to the parks last week at parade time, with my 6 year old brother, because I had to babysit, but my mom dropped me of at the park. With that, it was wrstle with the crowds, or take the good spot we found. Neither of us wanted to watch the parade, as we have seen it a million times, but we wathced it anyway, because I did not want to lose him.
We are currently imagineeing a new attraction for you!

Please enjoy all the other attractions in fabulicious Vasooki-land!
