Foggy NYE at Disneyland Resort

Happy New Year Everyone!

I decided at the last minute that I was going to go to Disneyland for the first time on New Years Eve. I had heard about the massive crowds and was ready to brave it anyways. I met up with our crazy MiceChat group at the noon meet and, although it was crowded in Disneyland, it wasn't much more than the normal Sunday afternoon crowd. The plan was to do a few things in Disneyland and then spend the rest of the afternoon/evening in DCA.

Much to our surprise, around 7:00, the fog started rolling in...here's a few shots from the Cove Bar of Paradise Pier:

Some of this fog lifted within the next 1/2 hour or so, and we were hoping it would stay that way for the rest of the evening. We next went on Soarin' a while later, and within the time we were in the ride, we came out to pea soup fog. Here's a few pictures of the rest of DCA leading up to midnight:

And this is what we saw of the fireworks from DCA (as you can see, nothing!):

A few of us ventured over to Disneyland afterwards to see what everything looked like in the fog over there. The Matterhorn was gone, and this is the castle from right across the street:

I really wanted to go over to NOS to see the foggy effect, but it was about 1:30 am by this time and I still had to find my hotel (in even denser fog) and check in, so I decided I had better leave.

I had a great time with the MiceChatters and would like to thank them for being such a fun group...you are what made the evening . And, while we didn't get to see fireworks, we sure got a surreal type of evening with the fog!

Glad you decided to go. And that fog looks so cool! I love thick fog like that, it adds a totally different dimension to everything. Happy New Year Alterna-wife

it's really sort of pretty. i like fog a lot (except for the problems driving), and disneyland seems very mystical in the fog. too bad it was such an inopportune evening for that kind of low visibility!

Bummer that fog blocked the Fireworks at Disneyland if viewed from DCA.

And from the pictures, i liked the fog at DCA, especially with the lights. Party atmosphere.

IMO, I think the fog really got thicker around 10:30pm. They were still able to do "Believe" at 9:25pm just fine.

I SO wanted to ride Screamin & Matterhorn in the fog.

Re: Foggy NYE at Disneyland Resort

It was foggy again tonight. Sorry I have no pictures but after the first Fantasmic! I stayed to watch the fireworks. You couldn't see a thing. The fireworks exploded in the clouds. All you could see was the clouds lighting up and then some pyro as they fell out of the cloud toward the earth.

I've got video of the fireworks from backstage and there still isn't a whole lot to see! The finale was pretty wicked, though.

I'll have the fireworks and a video featuring the fog in Downtown Disney in a trip report which should be up pretty soon.

Re: Foggy NYE at Disneyland Resort

My gut feeling tells me, they should cancel fireworks when its too foggy since you cant see it anyway, they will save on fireworks. But its new years eve and new years day, they gotta do it no matter what.

The fog was cool in the parks, but any other day would have been better. Not on New Year's Eve to block out the fireworks!

I've never seen IASW at night. Wow, it looks gorgeous all lit up. Gotta make a point of going at night next trip.
